Jerkass Cop shoots and kills neighbor's puppy

May 18, 2013 21:34

Chicago police on Friday night launched an investigation into what led an off-duty officer to shoot and kill his neighbor's dog.

The officer, an eight-year veteran of the force, said he was out with his young son on the 5800 block of North Oketo Avenue, on the city's far northwest side, when Maximus, a four-month-old pit bull, charged at them ( Read more... )

How completely horrible. Poor puppy, poor family. I hope they get their justice.

Good god this is sad. Who the fuck thinks it's okay to shoot a puppy? Good god, it's not even like the puppy could do a huge amount of damage--at four months they're still small and just starting to learn about the world around them. If one "charged" at me I would get down on my knees and play with it.
Honestly, this does kind of sound like the guy had a vendetta against the dog.

Yeah, I agree. It sounds like the family have had bad history with this douche, who apparently just happens to always have his gun with him when he's on vacation and playing outside with his kids.

.....I gotta imagine his son is suffering too, having to watch Daddy blow away a little girl's puppy in front of them.

Sounds more like racism against the family, given information at the bottom of the post.

They further note in the video that their 5-year old daughter was with Maximus and had to watch the asshole unload 8 - 9 rounds into her puppy.

A five year old kid was with the dog when the asshole unloaded 8 to 9 rounds into the puppy? WTF? This is all kinds of fucked up! AND the family gets TWO citations? AND that asshole cop's son was a block away during the shooting?

I hope the family gets the justice that's due them. In no way should this kind of fucked up behavior be tolerated. When they say that law enforcement is one of the professions that psychopaths are attracted to, I do believe that. Which is not to say of course, that all cops are psychopaths.

And why the hell is the officer not named in the article? Why is he being protected?

Quite possible. In the video report, the officer is hidden out of sight as he is interviewed. He sounds really dismissive and unapologetic for traumatizing a 5-year old girl by murdering her puppy right in front of her.

Bonus for new information from the family's facebook stating that they had previously been threatened, insulted because of being on government assistance, and gave them a hard time for being the only Hispanic family on the street.

Dude is a shame to the badge, no two ways about it. Even if he didn't plan to do it, which is PRETTY FUCKING UNLIKELY, an officer with such an enormous lack of judgment is dangerous and has no business on the streets. Those are the kinds of officers that shoot someone for trying to get their wallet, and claim it was a gun ( ... )

This asshole should be NOWHERE near a badge and no business being a cop. He was dismissive and unapologetic AND hidden out of sight as he was being interviewed? Yeah, I'm still going with psychopath. If I ever shot an animal by accident, I'd be wracked with guilt and punishing myself relentlessly. I wouldn't be fucking dismissive and unapologetic. I would be wide awake at night, unable to sleep. Plus that five year old girl was there, for goodness sake! That might be the reason why he's able to live with himself... he's a psychopath.

honestly this "charged by the dog" is normally puppy behavior when it sees something it wants to PLAY with. Older dogs tend to approach a little more slowly, puppies just come barreling in because they're SO EXCITED to see you. OMG SOMEONE WILL PET ME! OMG! OMG! OMG!

There's a big difference between a dog that want to play and one that wants to eat you and if you're even vaguely familiar with dogs, its generally really obvious if the dog's coming at you like a freight train of WUV or murder.

EXACTLY. Puppies do that, in the same way social toddlers will smile at and greet strangers randomly.

The people justifying his actions in the comments make me SO ANGRY, primarily because they either think "pit bull = killer mutant death machine" or because HEY if a dog is off leash it's fair game! Which are both very disturbing mentalities, in my personal opinion. It should never be okay to blow away someone's dog simply because they managed to get loose.

The neighbor at work has a pitbull. when I pull in, she pops up in the big bay window of the apartment. Then vanishes behind the curtains. Then reappears with a toy. PLAY WITH MEEEEEEEEEEE!

Clearly a killer, look how she's mauling that squeak toy!

My reaction after reading this.

1. OMG SO CUTE DOGGIEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. I hope cops are rarely in the vicinity, who knows how they'd react to a pitbull with a toy...

And given that it's Chicago, I can assure you that NOTHING will happen to the cop. The independent review board here is at best a joke, at worst protection for bad cops.

That's disappointing. But I hope they're at least successful in either suing the shit out of him or at least seeing him driven out of the community.
