He said the Human Genome Project, completed in 2003, had paid $140 for every dollar invested.

We need this put on billboards, skywritten, etc.

There was an excellent post on Slate, I think, by the scientist studying duck penises defending her work. Most great discoveries in science are made by accident, or by years of study in apparently unrelated topics. So to make more great discoveries, we really should be doing as much science as possible. It will pay off!

Of course, the Repugs won't. They'll SAY it's because money, but the real reason is that they're afraid someone will try to map THEIR brains and find out they haven't got any!
