Good on the franchise owner; I'd like to see more franchises do the same.
But I'm still not eating there. His particular location might not be about hate, but that doesn't apply to the company as a whole and while the gesture is a kind one, for me, it's not near enough.
Is there a way to support a franchise without supporting the company? I know a lot of people managed to do that with BP by buying candy bars and not gas, but I'm not sure how it'd work for a restaurant.
*repeating myself 'cause you both were wondering the same thing....*
No. Most franchises not only, obviously, have to pay to become a part of the franchise, but they might have to pay yearly 'fees' and they also as a rule buy their inventory from the parent company.
*looked this up to support an argument i made on Huffpo*
that's nice for a local store and all, but it's still part of the chain. of course chick-fil-a is happy to serve anybody in their community, it's money for them, and it's promotion that they hope leads to money even when it's coupons for free sandwiches. that doesn't erase the fact that the chain turns around and uses profits to financially support oppressive groups.
Well, bully for him, but it won't change my mind on eating there. Even though he's an 'independent' franchise owner, some of his money still goes to the main company which...supports hate. So - your free coupons do not tempt me!
Or - they wouldn't if i lived anywhere near there.
This. Except for the last line, because I do (ugh) have a Chik Fil A near me.
I have no idea whether it's an "independent" franchise or not, but I'll never spend my money there regardless. Although if they gave me free coupons, I probably would use them--because that would cost THEM money--then never darken their door again!

I'd take their free coupons and eat their free food, and then I'd continue my boycott. I'd end up costing them money instead of giving them anything!
