The second it happened, I thought: A Meme is Born.

I didn't think there was anything remotely interesting. People sometimes need a drink of water when they're talking. Who the fuck cares?

Was the "slow news day™" tag the tip off, or do people usually exert real energy to express how much they dont care about clearly-labelled topics of minutia?

I just watched the video and didn't see why it became a meme? Some of the other ones you posted in the comments were cute, though.

Actually, yeah, that's very true....I dont get why it's called a "meme" either. It usually evokes thoughts of spin-offs (at least the internet definition of "meme"). So yeah, it seems like the totally wrong word to describe whatever this was.

Same. It was hilarious when it happened, really hilarious (and cringe-worthy) when they replayed it on The Daily Show and Colbert Report and still hilarious now on video.

Wait, I forgot -- what was it that made the Jindal SOTU response awkward a few years back? I recall the 30 Rock reference to that awkward intern character but I feel like there was more to it than that? Google gives me too-broad answers ("AWKWARD!").

His tone was very slowed-down and came across very sing-song-y -- Jindal's actual speaking voice is much different from the way he sounded that night. For one thing, he speaks a mile-a-minute, so he was probably repeatedly coached to slow down.

I had to go look at other vids of him speaking to compare. OH MY GOD.
