Conservative Columnist Doubles Down On Women Are To Blame For Newtown Argument

According to anti-feminist Charlotte Allen, a male janitor or “even some of the huskier 12-year-old boys” would have made all the difference in the Newtown massacre, simply because they are male National Review published Allen’s controversial piece on Wednesday, where ( Read more... )

Why aren’t there more men? Perhaps not enough want the job? But why? Because they are tacitly discouraged from careers in elementary education?

No, it's because they're more or less actively discouraged from perusing these jobs because clearly any man who wants to teach little kids is a pedophile in disguise.

Which doesn't make the whole premise of this whole argument any less COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY FUCKED UP AND WRONG, and completely without any redeeming value at all ever in any way.

Just, as the wife of a dude thinking about getting his elementary ed. certification I wanted to add that point of information.

side comment: I wish we had more male teachers in elementary school! Half the children are boys and they need to see kind and nurturing men.

This lady makes me rage so fucking much.

I am, however, blaming our culture that denies, dismisses, and denigrates the masculine traits-including size, strength, male aggression and a male facility for strategic thinking

SO FUCKING HYPOCRITICAL. THIS IS WHY MEN DON'T TAKE TEACHING JOBS BECAUSE THOSE JOBS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH BEING "MASCULINE" OR "MANLY". The things you oh-so-love about what men should be is the exact reason they don't take on certain jobs you ignorant fool.

And god forbid the school take bullying seriously. How evil of them for not letting kids call each other names and bully each other, what has society come to?

Ma'am, you can take your backwards thinking somewhere else. It's not wanted.

Well, see, kinderrgarten teachers are delicate flowers who are only working until they find a good man to marry, and chemistry teachers are smart analytical men. Duh!

Because most adults remember high school chemistry class being hard and they idealize kindergarten, and would have an easier time doing kindergarten homework than high school homework (unless it's connected to their job or interests). Therefore, kindergarten teacher is an easier job than high school teacher. Never mind that a 5-year-old who cannot hold a pencil properly and gets b and d confused is struggling just as much as a 15-year-old who doesn't understand how electrons work.

Also, little kids are easier to teach because they are all obedient and well-behaved and love school and their teachers, and teenagers are all sullen and rebellious and hate school.

I don't understand why does Charlotte Allen thinks high school chemistry teachers are paid well.

exactly, i thought it was pretty common knowledge in the US that most teachers, at least those in public schools, are not paid well at all for the amount of time they spend working (which is not just 8-3 m-f like these assholes usually say), not to mention the time, energy and money they put into their classes projects and whatnot.

which is really just another reason why more men aren't teachers, because men HAVE to be the ~breadwinners~ and can't be wasting their time on a job that pays as little as teachers are paid. sigh.
