According to anti-feminist Charlotte Allen, a male janitor or “even some of the huskier 12-year-old boys” would have made all the difference in the Newtown massacre, simply because they are male National Review published Allen’s controversial piece on Wednesday, where ( Read more... )

Well, see, kinderrgarten teachers are delicate flowers who are only working until they find a good man to marry, and chemistry teachers are smart analytical men. Duh!

Because most adults remember high school chemistry class being hard and they idealize kindergarten, and would have an easier time doing kindergarten homework than high school homework (unless it's connected to their job or interests). Therefore, kindergarten teacher is an easier job than high school teacher. Never mind that a 5-year-old who cannot hold a pencil properly and gets b and d confused is struggling just as much as a 15-year-old who doesn't understand how electrons work.

Also, little kids are easier to teach because they are all obedient and well-behaved and love school and their teachers, and teenagers are all sullen and rebellious and hate school.

I don't understand why does Charlotte Allen thinks high school chemistry teachers are paid well.

exactly, i thought it was pretty common knowledge in the US that most teachers, at least those in public schools, are not paid well at all for the amount of time they spend working (which is not just 8-3 m-f like these assholes usually say), not to mention the time, energy and money they put into their classes projects and whatnot.

which is really just another reason why more men aren't teachers, because men HAVE to be the ~breadwinners~ and can't be wasting their time on a job that pays as little as teachers are paid. sigh.

Also, high school chemistry teachers are obviously living it up. Same with kindergarten teachers.

I'd rather do anything than teach kindergarten with the number of parents that send their child to school unable to wipe their own butt. (Which is why my grandmother taught grade 3).

Some people are under the delusion that teaching little children is actually very easy and not intellectually or physically demanding, whereas teaching high school is hard work. Having taught all ages from four-year-olds to PhD students, I can say that teaching at every level has its own demands and is hard in its own way, but with say, 10-year-olds and younger, you never have a "down" or "off" moment, not even for a second. You have to be paying attention, constantly moving, constantly going with young children.
