Catholics against same-sex marriage took to the streets of Paris to protest President Francois Hollande's plans to legalize both gay marriage and gay adoption over the weekend. The protesters were met by Femen, a Ukrainian activist group whose members went topless and donned nun habits in support of gay marriage.

I don't get how gay marriage will have an effect on the number of kids anyway.

Because gay couples are all sterile, and gayness is catching, and made worse when the gays can get married. Obviously.

/sarcasm

(I'm pretty sure Russia actually cited something similar to this as a direct reason for their anti-gay laws, but I could be wrong.)

We've had gay marriage and gay adoption where I live (i.e. Quebec, Canada) for almost a decade (2005 was when gay marriage became legal across the country, gay couples can adopt in Quebec since 2002 ( ... )

Why can't people just figure out that this is just a question of the most basic human rights?

Because we're only a small minority, we don't deserve governments paying attention to our rights. (For all that this sounds horrendously sarcastic, my mother said as much to me, almost verbatim. I was so aghast I didn't say anything, and I think she thinks she won that argument.)

Oh. My. Goodness.

That is just terrible.

Personally, just off the top of my head, I'd argue that history provides us with all too many examples of the fact that minorities need MORE protection of their rights, and not less.

I am truly saddened by what you have had to face.

These Femen girls are nothing more than latent exhibitionists: they wave their bare breasts on each and every occasion they can think of

PS. Tits are good, though.

It is both helpful and meaningful.
The sooner people understand this, literally speaking, naked truth, the better.

Why don't you just have a tour on http://femen.livejournal.com/
Or, alternatively, just go http://femen.org/ and have fun.

Sweetness, I know exactly what femen is. Just because you totally fail to grasp their point in favour of your own titillation doesn't make it any less valid.

Sadly not surprised. I'm from the Bay Area so I'm sure that explains some of the culture shock (as well as the whole feeling extra fulnerable in a different country with no friends effect), but the blatant & casual homophobia was one of the hardest things to adjust to when I was in France last year. But I'm hoping there (as I'm hoping here) that the homophobes are being extra awful right now because they know they're losing.

For fuck's sake. Good on France for doing this, but a giant 'fuck you' to all the people pearl-clutching over gay couples adopting.

Not only that. papasha_mueller November 21 2012, 07:39:55 UTC
Imagine yourself - people are demonstrating, they're organised, this event is official, the column has its path cleared with police and city authorities -
Bummmm, bah! - a bunch of poorly dressed femines spraying some strange grey powder at them and shouting their bullshit ...

So what, you violently attack them? And I'm pretty sure there was no grey powder involved at all.
