Catholics against same-sex marriage took to the streets of Paris to protest President Francois Hollande's plans to legalize both gay marriage and gay adoption over the weekend. The protesters were met by Femen, a Ukrainian activist group whose members went topless and donned nun habits in support of gay marriage.

We've had gay marriage and gay adoption where I live (i.e. Quebec, Canada) for almost a decade (2005 was when gay marriage became legal across the country, gay couples can adopt in Quebec since 2002).

The world hasn't ended for us, and the sky hasn't fallen. Not even close.

Why can't people just figure out that this is just a question of the most basic human
rights? This is just terrible. /rant

Why can't people just figure out that this is just a question of the most basic human rights?

Because we're only a small minority, we don't deserve governments paying attention to our rights. (For all that this sounds horrendously sarcastic, my mother said as much to me, almost verbatim. I was so aghast I didn't say anything, and I think she thinks she won that argument.)

Oh. My. Goodness.

That is just terrible.

Personally, just off the top of my head, I'd argue that history provides us with all too many examples of the fact that minorities need MORE protection of their rights, and not less.

I am truly saddened by what you have had to face.
