so for a minute I started reading the title and I got all excited because I thought it was saying, "Mormons want to Excommunicate Romney"

But then I finished reading.

Kind of unrelated, but I've been wondering lately if the Church was going to Excommunicate Sen. Reid.

I think he's high profile enough to be safe. And I wonder if his status as a convert rather than someone born into it protects him too - would they want to send a message to prospective converts that they can take back your membership over disagreement?

This a good point considering that aside from having their own extra book of the Bible probably the one other thing people knew about Mormons before this election was that they actively seek new members. It would be horrible PR for them to be shown attempting to or going a head with the excommunication of someone who converted.

Maybe. That's what I told myself too, but he's still, boldly, going after Romney...and one could argue that a President Romney would further the Mormon Church's agenda (and I'm not saying anything about the majority of Mormons, just the "establishment" if that makes sense), than a Sen Reid would.

Regarding the fact that he converted, that might make a difference? Hmm, I actually didn't know that he had converted.

To me, this is yet another indication that Romney is jockeying for power by using people who are firmly convinced that doing so will result in tremendous power and benefit for them (the tea party types, the corporate right, the Mormon church, etc.), which he has no real intention of giving them. If he were elected and all of these factions realize they've essentially been used... it would be ugly, I imagine.

I think he'd give the Mormon Church power, I think the Mormon Church feeds into his own lust for power (Mormon beliefs regarding the after life, for example)

I don't know it he'd go so far as to officially sanction them (can you imagine the backlash?) but I think it would give them tremendous privilege while he looked the other way. All the founding fathers would probably be made Mormon after the fact, for instance.

I agree with you, I don't know that he'd go far enough to 'baptize' the Founding Fathers (has the Church not done that, they claim to have batized Anne Frank :-/), but...they'd probably have an influence similar to that of any organization or corporation connected to any other President.

It's so uncomfortable to have this discussion, I'm not labeling all Mormons and I would understand the need to change the outlook Americans have regarding Mormonism, but after watching the documentary on Prop 8...I just can't believe that there isn't/wouldn't be more.

I think a lot of people either don't know or forget those guys are/were Mormons. I know I have trouble remembering it myself!

That church and the way it controls the people in is just creepifying.
