LOST and the afterlife

Aug 30, 2010 18:58

I knew I would get something out of my Life After Death class. To be honest, the main reason I chose to take it was because of LOST. I wanted to get a better grip on all the dimensions of the afterlife.

Today I was watching a John Edward documentary for class and something he said caught my ear.

[In the afterlife] usually we go to the bonds of love ( Read more... )

Do you mean in general? Has my view of the afterlife in my life changed, or because of the LOST finale my viewpoint has changed ( ... )

You made sense, I promise. I definitely understand what you are saying and I appreciate it!
I really love your thoughts on you and your fiance. That is really sweet. That makes me want to believe it too. :)

Honestly, I believe there is nothing after death, but I wish I didn't.

Aw, why do you say that? That "wish you didn't" part.

I don't know if there's actually some sentient afterlife, but I always think in science how energy can't be destroyed, only transferred. I like to think of spiritual energy like that. Even if we die and there's nothing, maybe at least our body will help the grass grow.

I honestly have to believe in something in the beyond. I don't know what I'd do if I didn't believe in something.

Thanks for sharing. :)

I wasn't raised to believe in any sort of afterlife. My mom comes from a Jewish family, but she doesn't believe in God or an afterlife, while my dad was raised in a very Christian family, and has the same beliefs as my mom.

But, on my own, I've come up with my own opinions that greatly differ from my parents'. I've always believed in an afterlife, but the idea of Hell never really stuck with me. In my opinion, we all go to one place, whether that be Heaven, reincarnate back into this world, or whatever, I've just always believed we all go to the same place.

Yeah, that probably made no sense -- it's 6:30 in the evening and it's been a long day...

You know, Hell has never really stuck with me either. I'd honestly like to think that we all go to the same place. Although, this might be a lie because I always think of the people who rightfully deserve a hell ought to be there.

That made sense though. Thanks for commenting.

I have to say though, it terrifies me to think there's nothing after this existence..which is why I want to believe there's another life to come, or somewhere in which our spirits exist with the people we love most. I don't want there to be just nothing, if that makes sense?

No, I'm the same way. I have to believe in the afterlife. I want there to be something else.

I can't understand "nothing". I'm not going to judge anyone at all for their beliefs in the afterlife, but I just think that beliving in "nothing" after death is ... incomprehensibly sad -.-

Part of what made the finale hit me so much was that it put right in front of me everything I always felt stupid for believing. I've always believed (or I suppose I've told myself I've believed) that when my life ends I'm going to go somewhere and reconvene with everyone I've already lost and been missing, and together we'll all chill out a bit, hang around, make sarcastic comments about how long it's taking the rest of our friends to catch up. And it's only when we're together we'll move on. I've been this way in life and I've always imagined I'll be that way in death. I'm just not prepared to leave anyone behind.

And then, of course, the finale struck XD

Of course that makes my life a bit tricker now. People ask what I think about the afterlife, I try to explain myself, I give up and say "Did you ever see the last series of Lost?", and then everyone treats me like a child for apparantly forging my belief from television :/

.. sorry, that was self-indulgent ^-^;;;

Darlton read your mind. :O

That's really cool that you believe that. The finale must have been awesome for you!

I think I remember bowing my head and saying "Thank you" at the very end *blush* [/totallamefail] XD
