I thought he might destroy whatever the alt was. So perhaps their safe purgatory place or their afterlife might have been in danger had MIB been allowed to destroy the island and/or escape. I only say this because the island's energy or core seems to be tied to the light and the light was such an important element in their afterlives.
..Didn't I just see this post posted on /L O S T/? lol
I think his mere presence causing the end of the world (and the island sinking) would've been quite cool and apocalyptic, imo. I would've been ok with that ending ;]
Though I had posted the same topic a while ago here and one of the mods deleted it because the title was too spoilery and it was too soon after the finale had aired. -_-
I don't think anything would have happened, it was all made up by an unreliable narrate to keep MIB in his prison. I think if he did leave he would have been completely unimpressed and bored and then tried to get back to the island after he took a tour of the world.
In all honesty I don't think anything would have happened, because I don't think the writers took the time to think of what would really happen. If they didn't think of it or detail it... then nothing. "Something bad happening" is not good enough storytelling for me. It's like "don't push the red button..." type of crap. Maybe that's why I was on Team Esau?
I agree with this. Jacob himself did not seem to completely understand what was going on. He did what he was told. The writers did a bad job of turning Smokey from a poor guy imprisoned on an island to someone who would cause havoc once he did.
Exactly. I file it under 'shit they didn't think through because they hoped it would be impressive enough in its vagueness that they'd never have to explain in detail.' They are such wiener dogs.

So I guess there would be no afterlife?

Now that he's really dead does that mean he's a ghost on the Island? Or is he in purgatory with his brother?
