I bought s1 and s2 on DVD brand new for $50 total (YAY!). I'm ashamed to say I've never actually seen most of 1, because I originally didn't start watching until I think Born to Run

I just feel she's completely unimportant and has been delegated to being a background character who only does about one interesting thing per season, and solely exists to be a facet of the love triangle now
That can be said for pretty much every major female character on the show, from Sun to Juliet. My problem is that they insist on writing Kate in an ambiguous manner. It's difficult to really understand her on any level so people find it easier to just write her off.
OH HAY SAWYER, I'M ALL UP IN YOUR GRILL, LOVE ME lol really? When? Seems to be she was quite reserved and withdrawn during this time, probably still dealing with her pain over losing Aaron. The only time she allowed herself to get even slightly intimate with Sawyer was when they had that conversation by the creek.
Season 1 is still the best. Good times, good times. And the characters had such great conversations. I miss that.

IA. I really miss when most of the female characters were totally badass, although hearing about how Claire might possibly come back as a badass is pretty exciting.
And as for Kate being close to Sawyer, I guess I keep remembering random smoldering looks she gives him, lol.
I really want to like her, but the show makes it so hard!
Kate started to really bug me when she got super-petty around the time when Juliet came to chill with the Losties. She felt threatened, not so much by Juliet's other status but because Juliet was competition and made Kate not the center of all the guys' attention. In Confirmed Dead she was super-bitchy about it.
I dunno, before season three I was cool with Kate. She wasn't a favorite character or anything, but now she really rubs me the wrong way. So it wasn't a huge fall from grace...
Haha season 3 is such a low point in general imo. I was THIS CLOSE to not watching anymore. Ben and Jack and Juliet interacting was the saving grace for me.
Season 5 is only slightly better than season 3 for me. There were a lot of really blah episodes, but at least it had time travel, explaining the foot statue, and Faraday.
Kate started to really bother me around season 4. When Sawyer called her out on her back-and-forthing and she just slapped him like he was such a jerk for actually, you know, telling it like it is.
I don't like that she calls others out when they do something wrong, but if she's done the same thing once upon a time, then that's somehow okay and she's not supposed to be a hypocrite? All the characters on Lost are flawed, but Kate seems the least willing to admit when she's wrong. And the one written the most poorly in terms of redeeming herself. /unnecessary ramblings.
1. Seriously, Kate used to be so fucking awesome. I completely forgot how badass and gutsy she was. For people who don't particularly like Kate but used to - where did she go wrong for you?
I started really really disliking Kate during The Hunting Party. I hated the fact that she never fucking listened and ended up fucking over the group because she thought she was helping. WELL KATE, if they tell you NOT TO GO, then that doesn't mean OH SURE, COME ALONG ON YOUR OWN, it mean DON'T FUCKING GO.
but at some point in s3 I realized ALL SHE DID was flit back and forth between Jack and Sawyer This was where I started hating, or at least extremely disliking her. I hated the fact that she went back and forth between Sawyer and Jack; it was so fucking annoying. I really hated how she fucked Sawyer and basically used him to diminish her own emotional pain. You don't string along someone who loves you because Jack decided to eat dinner with Juliet. I thought it was redic. She just turned into this needy and annoying character.
