When a character's most important storyline is existing solely as the love object of two very hot male leads, (she hasn't been a character with a true agenda of her own since the 1st Season) that's all people are going to care about. If Kate's with Sawyer, the Jaters are going to pissed. If she's with Jack, the Skaters will be pissed. Come on, the way they've constantly pimped the love triangle, nobody cares about Kate's fugitive past (which isn't even that interesting or sympathetic to the character) or her storyline with Aaron (which the writers stole from Claire because they had no idea what the hell to do with Kate whilst she was off the island). People who are interested in the triangle (subconsciously IMO) care more about Jack and Sawyer than Kate; she just resembles the 'prize' and which man gets her in the end is the winner. Although since Suliet has entered the picture I think most fans couldn't care less by now (I know I've stopped shipping Skate) because when it takes a character 3+ years to realise which man she really

Well see, now you're being a little sensitive, unless you honestly didn't get it. I'm pretty sure the "Roger" line was meant to be taken as a joke...
Her mother's a freak and I thought it was great that Kate refused to back down to her or become her.
I can respect her for that, but... really? Put yourself in her mom's shoes. Your daughter just blew up your husband. Even if he was a jackass. Even if he was the worst person ever. She didn't shoot him, she didn't hit him with an axe - she blew off a fricking bomb. I would be pretty upset, too; and her mom was trying to be reasonable about it, too. She did turn Kate in, if my memory serves, but later when Kate comes to talk to her, she lets her do so without turning her over to the cops immediately - I remember she gives her a few minutes to go before saying she'd have to let someone know she was there. It seemed pretty reasonable to me

I just have difficulty in seeing why anyone would be interested in Kate's character outside of the triangle. Most fans don't find her backstory that interesting (and hey, originally I enjoyed her flashbacks much more than Jack's which were a total snoozefest covered in jears and jangst and jeards etc etc). But different strokes for different folks, I guess, which I should have made clearer.
I don't think Kate really had much to do with Aaron after she delivered him. Maybe she had a few scenes but there was absolutely no ~bond~ that was developed between her and Claire's baby, that would lead me to think that if anything were to happen to him Kate would automatically be his replacement mommy. It still seems so contrived to me.
By the way, I DID used to like her character. A lot. It's really just the triangle that ruined her for me. Maybe it's not exactly Kate I hate, it's the way she's been written that ticks me off.
Sun and Jin have been main characters since season one. Rose and Bernard are supporting characters.
Kate's decision to find Claire has nothing to do with Jack or Sawyer. Kate's decision to go to court and face her crimes had nothing to do with them.
I don't think it's bad that Kate got pissed at Sayid for shooting Ben. He shot an abused child after leading him on. Kate killed an abuser. Sayid shooting Ben is the reason for Ben's future evil. Kate killed someone already evil.
Jack only convinced Kate about the bomb by mentioning Aaron. She was still against it in that scene right up until he used Aaron as the surefire way to make her agree.
Thanks for your understanding lol, I get the Jack hate (and love) but the Kate hate has always baffled me. I come online after an episode and think "Wait, people had a problem with that? Wut?!" :P
She has never really been punished for her crimes - what did she do when she left the island? Got a ridiculous slap on the wrist, went off and lived in a big house with nice clothes and a nanny, and played mommy to someone else's child. She got everything she ever wanted, never mind the lives she ruined with bank robberies/lying/running.
YES this is one of the things that annoys me the most about her! She never has to face consequences for her actions, which is what makes her character so hard to relate to.
Alright, maybe Diane isn't a freak, she just creeps me out in the robotic way she talks and how she won't even try to understand what Kate might've gone through seeing her being abused.
Sawyer is still in love with Kate, that's why he stared at her like that at the end of LaFleur and why he looked at her when Bernard said "We just want to be together forever". It's also why Juliet dumped him.
Kate caused Jack hurt? When? From what I've seen he made her cry a lot more than she ever did.
I agree she wasn't punished for her crimes and I also agree the toy plane thing was ridiculous. But TV is tv...
I think the cage incident comes to mind. xD Aside from that, I'm drawing a blank. Maybe others can come up with examples, but that's the only one I personally can think of.
I personally like Kate, and I don't get the hate. She has been a bit indecisive in the past, but imo that's not enough to make me not like her. I loved her fugitive storyline and I loved her storyline with Aaron. It seems like with most fans it's either one or the other. To me, Kate's still the same passionate albeit flawed character from when we met her, except as the OP said, she has changed in positive ways.
But really, so many people are set on which characters they like and which ones they hate (the only one I despise is Sawyer - most of the time, not 24/7) ... and they're not going to change their minds with only one season left. I say let them be, whatever. This comm is full of Juliet-lovers and Jack&Kate-haters and I know that, and I've learned to kind of ignore it. :/

Aww, you make it sound like we're a cult. xD /shot
But I commend you and will respect your decision to like whomever you choose to. The only thing I ask in return, as will many others, is that you (general "you") respect mine as well. You know?
The thing with Kate... Yes, I understand that she does have good positives - and they're strong positives, which I applaud her for. And she's human, so she has flaws too, of course. The writers have kind of molded her to fit who they want and it's not anybody's fault that the script isn't doing her character justice. I'm not sure I could say I would still enjoy her if JJ had done something different, but still. All this flip-flopping the writers are making her do isn't exactly good for people who want to like her.
Yeah definitely, I respect everyone's opinion. But when they start blasting on mine, that's when I feel the need to defend myself. Luckily that hasn't happened yet. :)
Yay, glad to see a Kate fan lol, I thought I was the only one here. I don't think I've ever met a Sawyer hater til now though! What don't you like about him?
I usually ignore it too but I just thought I'd find out people's opinions.
I hate Kate because she's a life ruiner! She ruins lives! She wanted to help her mom out by eliminating her "step-dad", she "killed" the Australian guy AND her childhood best friend because they were helping her, and I won't even mention Juliet. She just can't do anything right for no one. Just stop trying to help people.
Well the whole sexual thing towards Kate is debatable. She never actually said he did. But I don't know, yeah her dad was a pig but I don't think I would have blown him up lol. That's just me though. But I get where you're coming from.
