I have a feeling that Amon made up the whole backstory about the firebenders mutilating his face and killing his family to justify his actions. I mean, what a convenient excuse to not show your face.

I am unbelievably glad that this show is airing now that I'm an adult, rather than when I was a kid, because so many of the best things about this show would be flying right over my head.

I spoke last week about how we struggle with privilege in our own world, and this episode raises an interesting question - does equality mean removing the privilege from those who have it? Or does it mean sharing that privilege with those who don't? Amon seems to have sided with the former - by turning everyone into a non-bender, he believes this will achieve "equality."

I doubt that
A - Their bending is legitimately gone - see here.
B- But if it is, I doubt that the Original Non Benders are going to treat them humanely if it happens to be true.

hmmm! good link. this would make a lot more sense, if you think about it. i mean, who the fuck is amon? energybending in something that is so special not even special snowflakes have it (i.e. how Azulon and Azula produce blue fire), so why would somebody like Amon, who isn't the Avatar and hasn't go through the journey of mystic-juju that Aang did have such a power? chi-blocking works temporarily, but it's short-term. it could be the case that Amon's energybending is also temporary, but long(er)-term.

I want a TV show just about the power plant and the benders that work there and lightening bend there and take off their masks and wipe sweat from their hardworking brows there. And I dont want it to air on Nick. Maybe HBO.
