Belgium won't vote for him either. A politican openly asked if we should even go to Russia (if we even qualify that is)
But the way sponsors and UEFA act is a bit hypocritical? Even I who has nothing to do with the world of football other than watching it and going to a match sometimes is not surprised by any of these stories so how can they be?
Of course they have to save face too.

I just hope that things finally change for the better.

True. I don't think I've ever seen a corruption case of this magnitude reported where the commentary in the media, including that of people from the field like former players and coaches, is so unsurprised about the allegations as such and doesn't even pretend to presuming any of those people are innocent. The pundits I had on TV yesterday were only somewhat surprised at the numbers (as the other moderator kindly informed viewers, one of them headdesked while the little explanatory movie was shown, I think it was Fredi Bobic), and at the fact that anyone managed to pin them down ( ... )

FIFA is such a mess jesscp May 28 2015, 08:57:06 UTC
why is the world only realising this now?! Fml I genuinely have no words for all this mess apart from how Sepp still escapes all of this. Old man clearly knows far too many secrets to ever be held accountable for anything.

I missed Europa final last night/wasn't even aware it was on! It really is treated pretty poorly as a competition.

To be fair, Europa was relatively hyped up, but yeah, you'r right, not as much as the Champions League will be, in terms of extended narratives, cliff hangers, and what it means to x players.

I was looking forward to Europa myself- and then FIFA imploded on the same day. Even the announcers of the match were all, "Not wanting to talk about FIFA and the scandal but... let's talk about FIFA and the scandal."

Europa was on 1TV4, that says it all, really. You get the feeling since Sky and BT can't make money off it (because Europa finals fall into OFCOM events that need to be free, iirc), they don't really care. But the match was exciting- it just paled in comparison to all the scandal screaming out yesterday!

Yep, it was on easily accessible TV in Germany too - the side channel of one of the big private stations, the channel usually showing old, not too famous movies and series and things.

In Flanders it's on public tv too like the World Cup and the Euros because they can't pay for the CL. But it's nice because they also do a livestream and I don't have a tv at my apartment.

poor Sevilla being out-shined by the FIFA officials on their big night...

When I opened r/soccer today i wasn't expecting all the posts about the indictments! what an overwhelmingly positive development! With some sponsors threatening of backing out on their sponsorships, i hope this results in Qatar being stripped of the WC and it goes to Australia.

Vlad P has gotten in on the FIFA action. the4thjuliek May 28 2015, 11:09:11 UTC
Russian President Vladimir Putin has been speaking on state TV in the past few minutes, and had this to say on the Fifa arrests:

It looks very strange, the arrests are carried out on the request of the USA side. They are accused of corruption - who is? International officials. I suppose that someone broke some rules, I don’t know. But definitely, it’s got nothing to do with the USA. Those officials are not US citizens. If something happened it was not in the US and it’s nothing to do with them ( ... )

Way to talk about things that have nothing to do with the case at hand. At least I suppose that FIFA is not involved in the Iraqi war nor in the intelligence services.

Oh, Putin. What with the human rights things and the spying and our own government caring more about obeying the US than not lying to its own citizens and violating their basic constitutional rights, I'm not at all a fan of US politics myself. But if someone should be very, very quiet about miscarriage of justice, it's him.
