Nice collection (and happy new year)!

The team you can't place is Greece. Don't ask me the names though; I don't know the team very well, mostly because I have the same trouble with Greek names that you have with German ones. It starts out OK for about eight letters, and than there's a whole bunch more, finished off by -opoulos, and I get lost.

Apart from all the obvious cheering/overwhelmed post-final photos of the German World Cup team (sorry, I know you don't like them, but I'm German, so I really can't help it, particularly as they seem really a nice bunch!), I like this one:

View image | gettyimages.comPeace and goodwill between the nations and all that. In spite of all problems, we have come far in the last decades. And as for the players, from what Per has since said about having to chew on being taken out for this game, I suspect he could use some company outside the German team too. And it's a bit less tragic in hindsight than the Luiz-James one - Luiz was so sweet to little James, and a short while later, he was the one ( ... )

Greece did better than I thought! jazzypom January 1 2015, 10:19:58 UTC
I wanted Bosnia and Herzegovina to go further than they went but eh.

Ah, Brazil. They'll never live that down. Being on the various forums after that, and the glee by the Argentine fans and the German fans- oy. Then the result at the World Cup and Götze getting the winning goal? Double oy. Oh well! Germany was working towards it since 2004, so if they hadn't won, well. They were expected to, and it was supposedly a bookend to the summer of 2006 or something, so it wasn't a surprise, as much as destined. We move on.

I had more pictures to post but my internet stream is being disagreeable. I just hope I can watch the games today.

Ah, if it had really been some epic poetic whatdoyoucallit or a typical movie script, it wouldn't have been Götze who scored. It would have needed to be Miroslav Klose's final World Cup act, definitely, and I'd have preferred it. So the most we got in that respect was Bastian Schweinsteiger saying he felt a sense of justice and closure when he hugged Jogi after the final... well, I guess some pathos was to be expected, and he looked close to falling down from mental and physical exhaustion. In my watching party, we were wondering if he'd made it up the steps for the trophy.

Good luck with your stream! It's annoying if they don't work or change matches in-between. I'll probably end up with a stream in a language that I don't actually speak again so I get by on the Latin-sourced words and the names.

Thank you for the luck! I might have to listen to Five Live - oy. Where they have texts by disgruntled football fans who have vitriol towards the players and the managers, and half of their suggestions sound as if they've been playing football manager so they are Filled With Ideas.

I just want my teams to win (LFC should be fine against Leicester, but we can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, we do but I really want Spurs to get at least a point off Chelsea- come on ya Coys).

Great idea to include some highlights from 2014, jazzypom! It made me miss the World Cup, tho. I totally agree with you about Simeone! Maybe I'm too optimistic, but I think he has a chance. Unless Real takes all the awards again.

2014 was the year I really got into football. I watched some games before (mainly the major tournaments), but nothing more.

It all started with this video:

For real. I don't remember why, but one day in April my nephew showed me this video, which led to other Neymar being silly dancing/singing/etc. videos and I started becoming obsessed following football news. Then I learned he has a kid ... my mind was blown, ha.

I got into Brazil NT besides Spain (the NT I always follow) and Argentina. The World Cup finally came. I loved the live watching posts on ONTD. Then that was over and I started participating in ONTD_FB instead, yay (I joined in 2010, but only followed it briefly).

[gif-heavy rambling inside ...]Spaniards were a disaster at the World Cup and broke my heart:

yeah Alonso's shocked me jazzypom January 1 2015, 11:41:42 UTC
Cue the lack of apology from the newspapers, and the lawyer talk going by the wayside (and no sums of settlement made -these things are normally made public in Europe, with retraction and all), I guess him having a side piece might have been more truth than speculation. Oh, well. Di Maria's didn't, he was grousing about money from time, and Madrid like their players to be pretty, or have a sort of identity about them (Ronaldo is CR7, Alonso was that gentleman/rogue of the midfield, Tony Kroos is the Teutonic engineer of said midfield, etc) Di Maria had a flickering form and no identity and on top of that wanted more money? Yeah, he'd have gone, especially them getting gold boy James.

Suárez. I so hoped that he wouldn't have recovered from the World Cup, but he did, and yeah, that happened. Italy shocked me, even though I had expressed my doubts about their play.

Yes, to everything in your post! I wish I could have posted more, but my internet is erratic.

I started following the German NT around the Confederations Cup of 2005. I fell in love with them during their quarter final against Argentina in the WC of 2006 while sitting in a traffic jam between Stuttgart and München. I've been a Schweinsteiger fan since then. Although people kinda look at me weirdly when I say that.
Selfie of the year?

Amazing post, Jazzy! Thanks a heap for it! Lmao, I'm reading that thread on Diego Costa on Reddit and I'm dying.

Out of all the things, the World Cup has definitely been the THE highlight of the year for me. Like, even that shitty CL final couldn't compare to the most boring matches of the WC.

- Spain's disastrous end (as a Germany and Chile fan, I am still delighted about it.)
- BRA-GER
- Peasant King and that stupid (but brilliant) goal of his.
- My troll scoring a hattrick (yeeeeeeaaaah)
- GERMANY WINNING THE WORLD CUP.
- Tim Howard using up all saves for the year.
- Fellaini's Afro goal.
- Mats and his two lovely headers
- BFG's Eis Eis moment.

Just some favorite pictures/gifs of mine:

[Just a few. If I put all them, everyone's computers would crash.]

there are so many brilliant moments from this World Cup that a post would take all day to load.
That last gif is still great. Iker must have had nightmares after that Holland match.

Lol, I kid but all of the CL can never compare to the WC. Navas and Sokratis and that Greek GK (Karnezis, I think) were the highlights of that match. You know how bad it is when Sokratis is a highlight :D
