Wow. We haven't seen the last of that World Cup thing.

Nice of you to include the Belgians! We played a bit messy but it was a good win in the end. Courtois who barely has to do any work in most of the NT games was angry after the match about having to make so many saves. He did have point because we can't let Bale run through to goal as much as we let Iceland do yesterday. On the other hand, it was a friendly, so I thought it was nice that there were chances for both sides.
That walk is a tradition, just like playing games!

Of all the teams that played last night, but Malaysia and Syria have outfoxed me. Will try and update when I have time. Yeah, the Belgian team sound really chilled.

Ugh. They've only released 42 pages of a 430 page report. I know that the FA and FIFA have a rocky relationship, this will only undermine it further. I wonder what it means for the premiership play and the world cup during the winter in 2022? We'll see.

That's a very good question.
I don't know how strong the position of the FA and the EPL is in that case. EPL can refuse to stop play during the World Cup but players have to be released by clubs for their national teams. Although it would be interesting to see what the big clubs would do without their internationals, probably not much.
I don't think that it would make a difference for most European fans if the have to watch the WC in February and the end of the competition and CL in June instead of the other way around.

The money will talk probably. The American market might decide what happens or probably the Asian market and the sponsors.

This is why it doesn't really make sense. If they were trying to make the game more popular then much as I kind of side-eye the whole America-centric ' It should be moved to the USA' stance, it would be more logical to do so.

The FIFA ethics report into World Cup bid corruption is expected to blame England more than Qatar for breaching regulations when it is published on Thursday morning.

LOL, that blurb. I mean, lied_ohne_worte mentioned that at least one of the guys from FIFA had a son who got a job in Qatar. Yes, that doesn't sound like bribery AT ALL. *eyeroll* Maybe payback for not supporting the proposed time change for 2022 to winter? (But hey, the IOC is not thrilled about it, either.)

Not surprised that FIFA cleared itself of corruption claims lmao, but I am somehow surprised that the WC in Qatar is indeed happening. Call me optimistic, but I thought it would be moved to the weather/timing issues.

Plantini's son got a good job out of it. jazzypom November 13 2014, 10:13:07 UTC
Not to mention the swag Platini and co got out of it. Even the fact that they're using workers from North Korea, Nepal, and about 4000 workers might die by the time the stadia is finished (according to calculations by the Guardian with twelve labourers dying every week). They won't stop.

I was stunned to learn that North Korea is sending workers to Qatar (and probably to Dubai and who knows where else) to generate funds to keep up Kim Jong Un's "lifestyle" and whatever else. I wonder whether the workers ever see any of the money they earn. Probably not.

Now to let my inner bitch off the leash (and unfairly impugn Swiss everywhere):

Sepp Blatter is Swiss, and the Swiss actually had a form of slave labour too. Swiss children and farm labor

Yeah I heard about that. I was gobsmacked myself. The money train can't stop and won't stop.

What a great post! Those Argentinian kits are beautiful. As lovely as the NED away kit.

Nuri? Yeah, he was born and brought up in Germany but unlike Özil and Gündogan, chose to play for Turkey.

The Dutch player in the picture is Ricardo van Rhijn. Plays for Ajax. I'm not able to ID the Mexican. Hazard looks so tall in that picture with his Louis Vuitton (not Fendi) bag.

Adidas did well by Argentina with their kits, I'll say that. They are gorge and the Adidas stripes enhance rather than detract from the design.

Whoa, that's a Louis vuitton travel bag that doesn't look tacky? Props to him for finding one! Cheers for the ID on the dutch guy.

The Turks seem to hate their NT though. I remember on some other forums how they said that the NT lacks soul. I can't hate, considering the state of the English national team since 2002 *sad lulz*

Ah, the Turks are very critical, in general. The way they booed Özil and Gündo during the CL matches was just terrible. Still bitter about them choosing to play for Germany, after all these years.

b- but that makes no sense jazzypom November 13 2014, 10:34:58 UTC
If Özil and Gündoğan were born in Germany, came up through the German system, etc- why wouldn't they be capped for Germany (especially if they're good enough). Or that Munir lad - who Morocco wanted to play for them, even though he was born in Spain, came up through Barça's academies and seems to not have much of a tie to his parent (I think his mum is Spanish) homeland? That's like me expecting Raheem Sterling to play for Jamaica, even though he came to England when he was eight, and pretty much seems more English than Jamaican anyway.

That's why I'm surprised at Nuri playing for Turkey.

He's a good player, Brendan Rodgers was short sighted in letting him go.

Also, it's not even like the Algerian team who get love from their country men even though most of the team were born in France and came up through the French academies, the Turks just seem to have scorn for their NT. I'm sure there's good reason but... damn, Nuri.
