i love how changing the yellow card rule in the middle of the tournament is okay, but considering or even testing replay is unthinkable

love you FIFA

but i don't waaaant to think about the controversies anymore, I want to see awesome goals!!!!

The missing the next match for yellow cards in successive games is a stupid rule anyway, especially in the knockout stage. This is the first step to (hopefully) getting rid of that rule all together. If you get two yellow cards in a match, and therefore receive a red card, then you should miss the next match. I think the successive yellow cards thing is unfair to defenders, but that's just me

sadly, I doubt it's the defenders Fifa are worried about in this instance. It seems to be more the big name players which are usually forwards and midfield players

The didn't change it in the middle of the tournament. They announced it on the first day or before the Wolrd Cup started.

lol @ that gif. That guy was crazy.

I dunno. Sometimes players deserve their yellows and teams should have to play with the fear that their big name players might miss a game if they do stupid things. They just need to keep an eye on card happy referees, really.

basically if you get a yellow card in the quarter finals, and then again in the semi finals.. you are STILL able to play in the finals.

With the old rule, you wouldn't be able to play in the final.

it was a dumb rule in the first place. i mean players work their whole lives to get to a world cup final, the only thing that should keep them out of it on the pitch is a red card.

to be honest, i'm glad FIFA was proactive for once and changed this rule. heh shows the press they're doing something =b

and I also think this means you wouldn't carry any yellow cards you got in previous games into the final. Unless I'm wrong

because it's the world cup I can ride with this
it's a once in a four year thing and unless you do something really stupid you should be able to play in the final if your country gets there

exactly, i mean, the players, the fans wait their whole lives for this moment, unless it's something serious they should be able to play

this is also FIFA's response amid harsh refereeing criticism, if you think about it, it makes the effect of certain refereeing decisions less of an impact on later stages of the competition, and therefore causes less controversy.

For example, if the successive yellow card in two matches rule didn't exist at all, Robbie Findley would be available for the USA's next game. The call the referee made was controversial because it clearly hit his head (anyone who saw the play would agree that it was not a yellow card)
