Right at this moment, I'm more comfortable with what scripted television thinks being a woman means than I am with what scripted television thinks being a man means. Only because we're so used to the horrors of on-screen women.
why is it being framed as a contest? Why do men always feel the need to swoop in and attempt to take our analyses away from us or turn them against us somehow, in order to join the conversation?
ehh, my bad. This was written by a woman. I take what I said back, although I still don't think it should be framed as a competition for who is getting the worst treatment in the media.
OMFG FINALLY. I watched TTSS with my partner the other week and although I enjoyed it, there was something about the gender depictions that did get to me. So I would love to be able to have a discussion on this with someone!
i think we need to remember that the entire idea of "real men" is based on trying not to be feminine, because anything associated with being a woman is negative. so this is still basically an attack on women.
And a lot of the scenarios she mentions put women in a role of serving a man: i.e. dead wife just there to make his life better and teach him to feeeel.
