You may recall one of the many times over the years that "actor" Darrin Criss recounted the harrowing story of his life as an artist before lucking into sudden fame. The story goes that he was seemingly down on his luck, scraping by with small gigs at places like coffee shops where none of the customers even acknowledged him. "I was always fully prepared to be a struggling actor," he was quoted as saying in this month's issue of San Francisco magazine.
In case you're unaware, his telling of events relies on a drastic misrepresentation of his circumstances. To be fair, it wouldn't be very Romantic Hipster of him to add a disclaimer like: 'Even though I had a giant safety net made out of lots of cash.'
Which brings us to the newest list he's been named on -- PopCrush's
10 Pop Stars Who Were Born Rich. They're using the word "star" very loosely here, but the rest is true.
"Darren Criss has known all about the Benjamins since a young age. The 'Glee' star's pops is not only a banker, but was also on the Board of Directors for the San Francisco Opera -- a post you achieve only when you've opened your pockets quite a bit.
But Darren's dad, Charles, isn't just a some Average Joe banker -- he moved his family to Hawaii for a few years so he could start and act as the Chairman and CEO of EastWest Bank. Ballin!"
What we should really take away from this is: don't feel sorry for Charles Criss. He has so much money to burn that it really doesn't matter how much he wasted on college tuition, paying for acting classes that didn't teach his son how to act at all.
Meanwhile, Darrin news bloggers are still scouring the internet for positive mentions of
his acting in Flop Most Likely, but are still only coming up with scraps of praise for his subjective appeal -- like
his half-a-sentence mention in an NPR writeup that only calls him Cougar Bait, and
another article that charitably points out how dewy his eyes are before adding "Nobody in this movie is really appealing enough to be much fun." Some Darrin news bloggers have resorted to
gloatingly reblogging ~real moviegoer quotes~ posted by bad Klaine fanfic writers. Rough times.
