When the watch stopped working, it hit him hard. It was his one last link to Jess, the only thing he held on to from that period of his life. His little keepsake, if you will, the reminder that she happened that he really was happy for a while there, living the dream.

When the watch stopped working, it was more symbolism that prompted him to take it in to get repaired so quickly. So Sam sought out Kaylee, who had mentioned in passing that she had a penchant for strawberries and a knack for fixing things and who was just the right amount of headstrong to deal with a distressed Sam.

There he was. He stood in front of the shop, cheery and sort of residential looking, checking the address on his phone, carton of strawberries under his arm before he stepped forward and knocked once on the door before pushing it open.

"Kaylee? It's Sam."

"Heeeey!" There was a moment where she was- somehow- very nearly stuck inside the engine, but she worked her way free and hopped down from her perch. She turned, pushing her goggles back as she did so, all the better to flash a bright smile his way.

"Did you find the place okay?" Kaylee wondered as she dropped the wrench she'd been using into one of the many pockets on her coveralls. She headed over toward him, still smiling.

"I did!" Sam said, taking in the interior of the building. "The color of the outside is very cheerful." Sam smiled, extending the hand not preoccupied with strawberries. "Nice to meet you in person," he added before holding out the carton of strawberries.

"I think you'd appreciate this more than I would," Sam grinned. "And in return, if you could take a look at my watch, I'd really appreciate it. But I mean, the strawberries are really just to compensate for Dean's rampant idiocy, so whatever fee you charge, feel free to throw it at me."

Dealing with Dean deserves more than just a carton of strawberries, Sam snorted internally.

Kaylee gave her hand a once over to make sure she wouldn't make a mess of Sam, and only then did she shake his hand. She accepted the strawberries afterwards, smiling from ear to ear. "It's nice to meet you in person too, Sam. Not just 'cause of the strawberries."

She made her way to the counter and the antique cash register there and set the carton of heaven aside. As much as she wanted to eat one right then and there, she had a job to do first.

"Well, Dean doesn't seem like too much of an idiot," she chimed happily. "But I didn't have to grow up with him, so who knows?" A laugh as she leaned against the counter.

"Let's see this watch of yours, hm?"
