According to Roman Catholic tradition...purgatory?

Sometimes, I think life can be a kind of purgatory, in and of itself. I'm not sure which side of my heritage I'm more inclined to believe.

That is a deep question to be asking. As someone has already said, purgatory is where we go until our souls are judged by His Grace. If you're looking at things in a literal aspect, however, we go wherever we are finally laid to rest.

Personally, I subscribe to the reincarnation idea. Eventually you become enlightened, sooner or later, so it's a nice thing to work towards.
