Thank you! I'm happy you thought this was well-written.

I think Booth tries his best to be a good father to Parker. Still, addiction can run in families, and there must be some part of him that worries that Parker will have to fight his own battle with some sort of addiction -- and hopes that that never happens.

But his son won’t ever watch him fall into a longneck and drown; won’t learn at his hand that sometimes the scariest monsters don’t lurk in the shadows or under the bed and aren’t monsters at all - just flawed people who saw too much and never really made it back to themselves.

I adore that.

I love the link between Booth and his father and both of their addictions - what more it tells us about him as a man.

This is fab.

Thanks, TT. I'm really happy this worked for you. I can't help but think given that Booth's seen firsthand how addiction can run in families, there must be some small part of him that worries that Parker might one day find his own "monster" lurking inside him. Everyone wants to spare their children pain, but sometimes certain things are just out of your hands...

Thank you for reading and commenting, Space. :)

the inner-most Booth, tinged with fears and regrets, yet also full of promises and hope.

That's a lovely way of putting it!

Love this: Maybe it’s all the same: plastic and glass, fathers and sons. Your fic is the second one today that reminded me of Scott Owens's On The Days I Am Not My Father.

Thank you. I read that poem when it came through on exceptindreams; it's wonderful -- and sad. I'm touched that this reminded you of it.
