Okay, this one is going to be difficult. Which one is more crazy?

Door Number One:

Encouraging halachic marriages between gay men and lesbians for the sake of "platonic love" and children?  From here.  Hattip: R. Harry Maryles

Or

Door Number Two:

Allowing the public posting of comments from people who think that the recent earthquake in Japan took ( Read more... )

crazy, bad things to good people, gay people, rabbis, tznius, theology

Door #2 doesn't surprise me in the least. I'm honestly surprised that it took this long for someone to post about it.
Door #1, on the other hand, makes my head spin. The article quotes one of the men saying that he tried conversion therapy, and it didn't work. No kidding.Conversion therapy has been widely discounted, and yet, people will grasp at straws to "fix" themselves. I had to deal with JONAH once. Never again.

I can't understand why people like Harry Maryles think this is a good thing. Do they really think that they are going to be faithful, i.e. celibate?

Yeah, I don't get it either. Perhaps he thinks it will somehow promote celibacy, but that's a big stretch.

It will *look* normal and apparently nobody would know that mommy and daddy sleep separately. Actually it is quite good - just imagine, no problems with niddah, bedikos, negiyah etc.

I know, this is my theory that I invented. Anything that doesn't involve a male is not really sex al pi torah.

I don't really see the problem with #1. If the couple like each other as friends, then I see no reason why a long-term roommate relationship can't work.

Which one is more crazy?..
Allowing the public posting of comments from people who think that...
Err... what's crazy about allowing such posting?
Most non-topic-specific open forums allow such and much crazier comments to be posted.

well, see, these people are worried about the fate of said prisoners and they are trying to use any diplomatic channels possible to convey their concerns etc, etc, etc. While at the same time, they post this type of crap for all to see.

It's a little counterproductive.

And the main point is that it is not a true open forum. If you post anything against the party line (um... maybe those boys should not have smuggled drugs...), your comment will not get posted.

Ehm... You mean, the same people are using diplomatic channels and posting this crap, or at least managing the site and allowing it to be posted?
To rephrase the question, would you expect that comment to bear impact on the results of diplomatic effort?

And the main point is that it is not a true open forum
Agreed. But your nomination was for the craziest behavioral pattern, not the most distasteful one.

In my opinion most humble, you are as prone to fighting windmills as ever.
(No offense meant, and I'm reasonably sure none taken. This is a voice of experience, btw.)
