I am exhausted and emotionally drained. My child WILL NOT SLEEP. I fall asleep before her almost every night. I know she's tired because she's yawning and twirling her hair, but she fights it like a gladiator. This week I have tried to start our bedtime routine earlier, cut out the t.v., nixed all late night snacks, and ignored all of her stalling ( Read more... )

We had the same issues with my Matty.
Not surprisingly though, most ASD kids have sleep issues.

In any event, Matty has been taking melatonin for a few months now and it works pretty well. Gets him to relax and lay still and fall asleep.
Now staying asleep the whole night?
Not happening yet.
But we'll take our progress when it comes.
He mostly gets up to pee, which I'm thankful for, even if he doesn't always make it into the potty. :/

Don't feel bad or guilty.
And it's not drugging her, so get that idea out of your head.

You are doing what's best for you and your daughter.

I wish you much luck and success in sleepytime!

sounds familiar...we found that our oldest boy would crash if he has just a little bit of caffeine. Weird, i know, but sometimes he needed it. the Doctor called it a symptom of ADHD. I have it too! Not surprising...I know this situation..it's a problem

don't worry about drugging, it won't last...I'm sure!

i have heard and firmly believe that sleep begets sleep!! dont cut out naps, if anything let her nap more often.

it is probably just a phase for her, seasonal or age related.

i would say that trying to wear her out with running or dancing late at night might be part of the problem. like when you exercise you get pumped for the rest of your day. maybe toning down your nightly routine with reading or a movie might help.

good luck!
