4 - CAUSE I AM HORRID. thatoldthatkind December 11 2011, 10:44:34 UTC
[ The Doctor steps up into the room as she tears up the picture. A frown falls on his face as his heart(s) sink. He really liked that one. ]

[He is the last person she expected to see here. That's the point of this tantrum anger. She tries to make it into strength, tries to want to use it to hurt him, tries to find the smirk to rub it in.

But instead, her voice comes out strained; it could be said to shake.]

This is what I'll do, to anything you send, when you can't even come yourself!

Let's fix that relationship in time for the holidays~ thatoldthatkind December 11 2011, 11:53:50 UTC
[ He just sighs. He moves over, pulling the legs of his pants up as he bends over and picks up the fallen shredded pieces. ]

Is that possible? T_T waterfell December 11 2011, 12:01:42 UTC
[What does he expect? They're talented, beautiful works of art - and no substitute for being there. She doesn't feel like being rational enough to tell herself that of course he can't come often, that he and Mama are divorced which makes it harder, all the reasons.]

Where were you this time?

[ since he's not in school, or rather graduated, he doesn't need help--he gives it. he's helping Ami, half brewing tea when needed, half managing his own case files, half... helping everyone be civil. when there's time for a break between the tutor and the tutoree, Riku raises his eyes from his files. ]

Not bad.

[Everyone being civil is the most mammoth task here. Somehow Ami seems to be in her element amid all the chaos: laughing, scolding, demonstrating, playing. It thrills the only child to have this finally, something she always longed for.

She actually smiles. She definitely seems more relaxed today than she's been at most times (at least, relaxed when not acting as an absolute tyrant about the study session), perhaps even appreciative.]

Their grades are improving. So this isn't wasted effort. [She... could really be more complimentary about it, still.]

It's never a wasted effort. [ he points out. ] You just don't want to admit it.

[Hmph.]

They should work harder. [No one ever pampered her, after all. She lived under the pressure of that expectation to succeed, to live up to the genius name, to make the family proud.]

[She's leaning back against the counter, smirking, as Ami examines her cookies critically.]

Good thing you're a better doctor than a baker or you'd kill all your patients, Sis.

[She startles visibly, quickly controlled but enough to spell out just how much she'd hoped for this not to be seen. She turns around, and plays angry to cover embarrassed.]

If you're saying you could do better, go ahead - try to. [An accurate translation would be 'help this time, please?']

Who, me? I'm just savoring the moment.

Something you're not good at, what a shock. Are you sure you're feeling all right? You're not gonna fall over or something? I thought you were allergic to failing. [She knows what a perfectionist her sister is.]

If I break out in hives, you can take me to the emergency room. [She smirks.] Like a good sister.

[Savoring the moment is rude, Reno. Help her fix this so you can savor cookies instead.]

[ ...and wouldn't you know it, the moment the peace ends is when Usagi walks in through the front door. It's the holiday season. She should be happy that it's getting closer to the winter break.

When she locks the door behind her, she slips off her shoes and when reaching the living room -- falls flat on her face into the couch and lets out a very muffled but still frustrated scream into the cushion.

Did we mention college sucks? Why? BECAUSE THE HOMEWORK JUST GOT HARDER. ]

( not too long after your entrance usa, your youngest pink-haired sister is throwing herself through the door, her hands over her eyes as she muffles the sobs that seem to be overtaking her... she flings herself down on the ground burying her face in one of the cushions also... family cushion bonding... totally... this is how we deal with things )

[They've been given a civilian life again for this dream. Masuyo walks in the door just behind Masumi, and without so much as an I'm-home, she stalks inside, heads from the entryway to the living room, marches straight to the couch, and... punches a pillow.

People picking on her sister is unacceptable. But after she quick punch, she puts a hand on Masumi's shoulder.]

I'm not letting them get away with it. I'll take care of them tomorrow.

[She glances at Usagi, who seems to be equally distraught, and actually manages to show concern.]

Did something happen to you, too, nee-chan?

[Ami has the decided feeling they won't be getting much studying done today, either. She gives the books a wistful glance.]

Usagi, you should be able to handle yourself better. You're a college student now. Whatever the homework is, you should be able to finish it if you apply yourself.

[For that matter, acting like the older sister instead of leaving it to her would be nice; though you are close in age. This lecture delivered and the problem (she wishes) settled, she turns to the other two.]

Masuyo, Masumi, what was it today? [Her face stays serious for them as well, but less scolding; no, the ones she's irritated at there are the ones making her siblings feel shut out and picked on.

It doesn't sit right with her.]

You don't have to stay in the doorway. [This is not the sweetest of invitations to join her, but it's an invitation nonetheless. Masumi tends to be the quiet and well-behaved one; she won't interfere with the work even as they spend time together.]

Think I can finish these by Christmas?

( knowing sooner or later that she was going to be discovered, she flinshed slightly, angry at herself for disturbing ami's peace... but at the same time overjoyed by the invitation to come closer. masumi hurried over to sit near her, by her feet and look up in adoration at the mittens taking form in her hands... ) Nee-san is always capable of anything she puts her mind to... ( she blushes even at the praise she gives... )

[Younger sisters: endless source of ego stroking. Ami holds up the knitting, showing the stitches; she'd tried a few difficult ones this time.]

You'll learn to do these, too, if you try. [She won't accept less, after all.] You just need to focus your mind on it.

[She's being something of a hypocrite. Her present skill with knitting and sewing comes from determination to erase the memory of that dratted 93 on her knitting project. She'd spent quite awhile at improving herself.]
