ARC-less

It's hard to ask for reviews when you don't have an ARC to offer the reviewer. Not only have publishing houses drastically cut staff, they've slashed their production of advance reading copies. I'm not alone; I've heard this from other authors, too. I wonder if publishing houses hope to make PFDs and Kindle an industry standard?

It's difficult to ( Read more... )

say the word, rant, pdf, arc, reviews

For me it's not the idea of .pdf's. I love not having to find a place to store or put books that I'm reviewing. It's a matter of portability. If I had an ebook reader, I'd take them all in eformat. I'm currently coveting the Sony reader (mostly because I've gotten to play with one at the local Target and I loved it.) or the new Astak EZ reader. I'm kind of mad at Astak- they kept pushing the product release back for almost a year, THEN they introduced it at a price much higher than they first said. Priced right out of my budget. (However, I am told that since I am an author I can buy one and write it off, as long as I say it's to buy books to keep up with market trends.)

I have a bunch of books on my computer, I just can't toss it in my purse on my way to work. Once I get an ebook reader, I'll be all about the electronic format.

I just love the idea of lugging a book around with me. I'd do that if I had a Kindle, too. It's just a drag reading a whole novel on a computer and I guess I understand that.

I agree, though I've done it. I just have to make the print HUGE and take many breaks. :)

Tell me about it. My book is in E-format only. And the sad thing is I don't even own a reader. I know one girl who had 20 copies of her e-book printed at Lulu just so she could send them out for reviews. She must make more money at this than I do. Lulu isn't cheap. But she did end up with a hard copy of her book to put on her shelf.

If you'd like me to post an interview on my MySpace blog, I will. I have quite a few friends but whether they read YA or not, I'm not sure.
