Hey Boo, I don't think it is considered in poor taste to ask for monetary contributions in lieu (? did I spell that right) of gifts. I was recently invited to a wedding where the couple had lived together for 12 years, had a son together who is 9 and owned a home and had everything they could possibly fit in the house. They requested people to donate $$ to their honeymoon they wanted to go on since they already had all the normal things people would normally give. I thought that was pretty tacky since they are both in the professional community and can well afford their own honeymoon. BUT some people will do almost anything for the "party" gifts. I got the feeling that they wanted to go on this fabulous cruise so they decided to get married and ask people to donate. WRONG. I think people given options may opt for the donation. I'm going to purchase things on line, on a UK hosted web site to avoid the extra costs. Most people do understand the exchange rate. That way you avoid the "higher" cost of shipping. my major point about that is having three jobs is in no way uniquely american. and i could go on and on and on about the lacking social services in this country: i'm not talking welfare, i'm talking education, public health, etc. i dislike gw and his administration for several reasons, his (their collective) stance on gay marriage, yes, but abortion, stem cell research, prescription drugs, and nuclear proliferation (us not them) etc, being only a few. NOT to mention his relentless bible beating which proves to have a detrimental, not to mention annoying, influence on several policies. no i'm not waving a clinton flag, but i am waving a 'plant a bush--and all that came with him--back in texas' flag
