Mii? Kouhaku Uta Gassen? My best friend and I watch that on television back home. Good luck on finding singers. There's many talented people here, I'm sure.

A festival held at my family's shrine on a Sunday in June. It's to honor our village's God.

The Cotton Drifting dance ceremony is different from other dances.

What's it like, then? Why is it so different?

It's a ceremony where we hold a service and sacrifice an old futon. The priestess dances with an ornate plow and sacrifices the futon by tearing it open. After that, we remove the cotton and send it drifting down the river.

Mii. I have to practice very hard with a mochi hammer before I get to use the plow. It's heavy and makes my arms feel owchie-owchie.

Mii? Do you really think so, sir? They say the cotton absorbs your sins. The human body gets very filthy with sins.

I've never heard that before. It's an interesting concept, though - so many clothes are made from cotton. You'd think we'd all be very clean.
