The occasion is a happy one, and Merlin does look forward to the announcement of his engagement to the Lady Morgana. However, not everything about the feast is enjoyable to him. He is keenly aware of the whispers that trail in his wake, and the odd looks he will get from various people in the crowd.

So far however, there has been nothing upsetting. Merlin hopes that remains true for the rest of the evening, he also hopes to steal a few moments with the Queen.

When the message arrives for the King, the messenger just habitually goes first to Merlin. Though he is not quite sure of his place at the moment, he sees no harm in breaking the seal and skimming over the message.

Morgana's accustomed to whispers and stares, and she's going to treat this feast as she did when introduced at foreign courts, with an proud facade, instead of the background role she fell into at Amhar's birthday.

A good number from the community is there, and surprisingly, Cadoc is amongst them, but there's a smugness to him that Morgana finds suspicious.

The announcement is only a formality as most are already aware of it, but Morgana finds she likes hearing it nonetheless.

When the messenger arrives, she's retying a bow in Tarrwyn's hair before the little girl is off like a shot, with her elder sister in tow. Carys may never like the politics of the palace, but she's young enough to still think all the ladies in their fine dresses fun to look at.

She looks back at Merlin, and furrows her brow a little, as he's concentrating on the message. If she'd seen the seal before he'd broken it, she would've understood.

What he reads is disturbing, to say the least, but the hight of the feast is hardly the right time to call attention to yet another issue of state. Merlin pockets the message and begins to make his way toward Arthur. He will mention this to the King quietly, but save any official responses for later.

On the way, he comes near Morgana and his stride pauses.

"May I speak with you, my Lady?"

"Of course," she gets up from her chair to follow him out of the room. She doesn't look to see who notices their exit, as it's quite plausible anything they do would draw attention.

"What is it? Something's concerned you." The cause far from her mind at this time.

Gwen, for once, is just sitting back and enjoying the feast. Typically, she's the one who does the planning, and during the feast, is often running around, making sure everything's going smoothly, or doing damage control. There's usually some crisis or another that needs fixing.

Once Arthur's done with the toast, she smiles at him, and gives him a kiss. "You've done such a good job with this feast, that I may have to start making you plan more of them."

Arthur is very pleased indeed to see his Queen having such a good time, and the kiss is very much appreciated.

But not her comment. "Oh God, please don't. I don't know how you do it. You have my everlasting respect, I shall name an honour after you."

Arthur's response makes her laugh, and she gives him a lingering hug. "Just remember that whenever you feel like we need one on the spur of the moment," she teases. "It'll make my life easier."

"I swear no more snap feasts...ever." Arthur plant a nice big kiss on her cheek. "That's to the seal the deal." He grins.

His grin falters slightly as he looks over and notices Merlin's face. Whatever he's looking at has obviously disturbed him...

And that probably means its distburbing for Camelot.

Arthur was still waiting for Merlin and Morgana to reappear when Mordred shows up.

Well, this is awkward...he'd hope to have Morgana's back up here, but he can hardly ignore the man who gave them the cure to the plague.

So he'll head over, hand extended. "The Kingdom of Camelot welcomes and thanks you for the help you've given us."

"She is here," Arthur is quick to reassure the Druid, he doesn't want Mordred to leave before Morgana has a chance to speak with him. "She just stepped out for a moment."

He's not entirely sure what to make of Mordred's companion, he's a bit...intense.

M&M&M&A (&G, if she wants) exiledskeptic March 21 2011, 23:49:12 UTC
Continued from here

Merlin may nearly miss a step, but Morgana's reaction is completely different. To her, Mordred will always be that little boy she loves, and it would take a great deal to wrench that feeling from her.

There's a broad smile, and an excited calling out, "Mordred!"

Dropping Merlin's arm, Morgana won't run (as it's a formal event) but her step will quicken. When in front of him, she tilts her head a little and continues smiling warmly. If she had even the slightest indication he would want it, she would forget traditional etiquette and embrace him.

"I cannot express the joy I have to see you as a guest of the palace." Considering his other adventures into the palace, this one should be much, much safer.

Advising the Advisor (Arthur & Merlin) kingnotclotpole March 23 2011, 01:41:31 UTC
Having excused himself from Mordred and Morgana's conversation, Arthur goes to find Merlin. Just to make sure he's OK.

Merlin is not alone as he wished to be, the young woman from the commuinity has gone to check on the King's advisor as well. Though when Arthur arrives, she ducks her head shyly and exits in order to give Merlin and the King time to speak.

Arthur doesn't get a good look at the woman, he's dosen't even realise she's from the community she leaves so quickly.

He gives a little shrug and puts a hand on Merlin's shoulder.

"Are you all right?" It's a dumb question, but Arthur can't think of anything else to say.

Merlin smiles, though it is a weak one, up at Arthur.

"Not at all." Yet he does not really know how to explain it. The feeling of missing something that has always been a part of you. "It is like I've lost a leg or an arm. I know that it is gone, but sometimes I forget and think that it is still there..."

Though only Warren has seen his unthinking slips to attempt to use magic as he once did.
