Date/Time: JARS of DOOM~; Tuesday, September 15th, Late Evening Location: Corridors, after Patrol Open to: Laurence, Cordelia, Malone, Bastian, & Ronnie
Bastian glanced at Veronica as they walked through the corridors to meet with Laurence, Cordelia, and Malone. He wasn't sure what all of this was about exactly. He knew it had something to do with jars and blood, but...
Well, he just wasn't sure. He was about to ask her if she knew what was going on, but he noticed the small group standing in the corridor, and instead took Veronica's hand and sidled up beside them.
He nodded to them in greeting, and squeezed Veronica's hand. He hoped this wasn't going to be anything that took too long.
Cordelia felt absolutely green watching everyone bleed themselves like the dinner chicken prior to the cook.
Well, there was that, then there was that which she held in her hand.
She took in a deep breath, then quickly turned, back towards the group as she stole a peek at the bottle. And then, with a shudder, she turned back around, hiding the bottle once again, and forcing the fakest of all fake, worried smiles.
Laurence's eyes narrowed as he glanced down at Cordelia, worry etched onto his face. He nodded, looking to the others. "Any reactions?" he asked, brows raising as he surveyed the group. He picked up his own jar, looking at it with interest. Absolutely nothing. Glancing at Bastian's, his interest was piqued.
"Your's is glowing," he murmured, staring at the jar.
Ronnie had grabbed Malone's arm to heal the cut for him, then glanced around the group as Laurence made mention of the jars. "Mine's nothing, too," she replied, glancing at Malone's then Bastian's. She also noticed the glow, her eyes lighting up slightly.
Pushing it toward the rest of the group with his foot, Bastian glared at the jar. "Yep. It's glowing."
He was slightly surprised by the fact that Veronica's wasn't, seeing as she was a pureblood. Perhaps she wasn't as pureblood as he'd thought?
Looking at Cordelia, hiding her jar, he frowned. He knew that hers was glowing as well, but until she told the group, he wouldn't say anything about it.
"...yeah, about that." Cordelia said quietly, coughing. "I suppose my suspicions were correct. I thought that ah.. maybe they were looking for a er.. certain bloodline within the pedigrees. And well. I suppose I was right." She motioned towards Ronnie's and Bastians, as if showing an example. "I had thought that they were testing the blood, and you know.. had a reactor in there to see."
She fidgeted. Cordelia Ashby fidgeted, which was something she rarely did. Something was Not Right.
"I ah.." she paused, glancing up at Laurence with a look in her eyes that showed her absolute worry and fear. And just as quickly, she looked down to the ground. "...Bastian and I share one very, very strong trait.. that being the fact that we're descendants of Merlin himself. True descendants, not one of these families that claim it. And ah.. well..." With obvious hesitation, she slowly held her glowing vial up, then forced a smile. "Lucky us, eh?"
Laurie felt everything in him start to tighten. His grip on her shoulders tightened as he looked at her jar, worry shining in his eyes. "They're.. They're meant to test for this -- for.. You and Bastian are what they're looking for?" he murmured, looking back down to her.
He swallowed, trying to erase the fear from his face. It wouldn't do for the oldest Auror there to look so unnerved. "We've got to figure out what they're doing with the blood," he mumbled, keeping his arm around her safely.
Ronnie, on the other hand, kept looking around the group. She wanted to be worried about Bastian, but she started to feel numb. Slowly, things were coming together in her mind -- the glowing jar, the large scar in his side... She looked up at him, lacing her fingers around his as she held his hand, trembling slightly.
Bastian looked at the ground. Merlin, he wanted to tell them all what he knew. That he thought he knew what they were doing with the blood. But, no, they weren't the ones who needed to hear it first. Albus was.
So he just looked at Cordelia as he squeezed Veronica's hand. "Yeah. We're what they're looking for. Us, and the other pure purebloods. They're--"
He trailed off, looking at Veronica. She was the only one who could feel his tremble. She was the only one who could feel his sweaty palm.
"We're kind of.. rare." she replied, eyes shifting to Bastian. "Something myself and Bastian have in common is the lack of squibs or anyone not thoroughly magical in our family. That's how pure we are. Most people aren't." Shivering, she tucked herself into Laurence's side. "Our families are all really close.. prefer to marry within either um.. the group.. or your own family.." Her nose wrinkled. Merlin did she hate to admit that.
"Yes. Merlin. I could just imagine what they could do with our blood. Pure, untainted, completely wizard blood?"
"Get rid of the jars," he instructed, reaching down to his own. His blood didn't matter -- but the last thing they needed was for whomever it was in their midst to see the glowing green evidence. With a quick vanishing spell, the blood inside disappeared, and he then used a scourgify to clean the remnants. Within seconds, it was empty, clean, and completely without evidence.
His worried gaze stuck on Cordelia, gesturing to her jar. Pleading for her to get rid of it.
Ronnie followed suit in her own jar, shrugging as she did so. Wasn't like she had evidence to hide. Bloody parents and their self-righteousness. Always claiming to be so pure.
Bastian did as Laurence instructed, his jaw tight as he did. This was not good, at all. He'd known that he wouldn't like this meeting, and lo and behold.
Using Scourgify, his jar stopped glowing, and he picked it up, handing it to Laurence. "You taking these? Or are we bringing them to Albus?"
He didn't like the idea of Cordelia and he being the targets of You-Know-Who's... affections, so to speak. Especially since He seemed to be able to get in and out of the castle to snatch unsuspecting purebloods.
"We're going to need to up security around Cordelia," he said quietly, looking at Laurence. He knew that the man would probably not leave her side now, but just to be sure. He pointedly didn't mention needing security around himself, merely because he didn't need it.
"We should also find out who the other pure purebloods are, and put them under increased surveillance."
Cordelia looked away, worry evident in her features. She shoved the jar into Laurie's hand, not wanting a thing to do with it at all. And as she did so, and Bastian spoke, she looked at him.. brow knitting as he spoke. "What?" she asked, worried. "Up security around me? What about you? Your's was as green as mine, Sebastian."
She didn't fancy the idea of either of them getting kidnapped for blood, especially since they weren't sure what would happen to the right people when they found them.
Laurence eagerly took the jar, vanishing and cleaning it as he had his own. His brow furrowed as he looked between Bastian and Cordelia, speaking up as he placed the clean, empty jar at his feet with the others. "Both of you are right," he cut in, voice serious and grave
( ... )
Bastian sighed and shook his head, biting his lip as they both told him that he'd need security. Before they could continue, and assign him someone, which would just be wasting forces, he spoke.
"No, no I don't. I'm not at any risk."
Before they could ask him why he was so arrogant that he thought he wasn't at risk, he pulled his hand away from Veronica's and opened his robes, lifting his shirt to show the long scar on his left side.
"They've already got my blood." Giving a small snort of derision, he added, "They got a bloody good amount too."
Looking back at Laurence as he pulled his shirt back down, he shook his head. "Put the forces where they're needed, which is not with me."
So she did. Right there, on the floor, pulling knees up to her chest as she watched it all in a bit of a daze.
"Bastian, you should have said something." she said quietly. In a way, she felt betrayed. Had he known about this all along? And hadn't bothered to tell? Did that put her, and the others at that, in danger? And he never told? She looked away, eyes training on the ground in front of her. "Regardless, well. I suppose we have a better grasp on what we're fighting then."
She let her eyes raise, looking at Laurence. "I'll not go anywhere alone. Promise. And finding out other people like us? Shouldn't be too hard. I'll um.. I know who I can ask. Shouldn't be difficult at all."
Laurence knelt immediately, draping his cloak and robes around her. She looked pale and frightened, and as she looked to Bastian -- annoyance? But something deeper, perhaps. He swallowed, gesturing to the empty jars. "I'll collect them, we'll take them to Albus as soon as possible and explain everything. And Cordelia, you can start asking around. Bastian, we can't force you to be watched and guarded, but I do wish you'd reconsider."
He glanced briefly to Veronica, as if trying to get her to notice his worried gaze, hoping she could persuade him. "If there's nothing else here, I suppose we should all head back to our quarters."
He looked back down to Cordelia, worry shining on his face. She looked terrible.
Ronnie, however, didn't even catch Laurence's gaze. She simply stood stock-still, afraid and trembling, and briefly wondering where Bastian's hand had gone.
Fuck fuck fuck. Cordelia looked betrayed, but... she had to understand why he hadn't told anyone! She had to...
Running a hand through his hair, he had to return to Veronica's side, slipping an arm around her waist, as much for his own protection as for hers. Feeling her tremble, he swallowed, and nodded at Laurence. "I don't need a guard, but I'll not go off by myself if I can help it, all right? And... Cordelia..." He didn't know what to say, so he just trailed off.
"Someone should talk to Chamberlayne about all this, let him in on what's going on."
Then, glancing down at Veronica, he murmered, "Let's go back to your quarters."
