Laurence eagerly took the jar, vanishing and cleaning it as he had his own. His brow furrowed as he looked between Bastian and Cordelia, speaking up as he placed the clean, empty jar at his feet with the others. "Both of you are right," he cut in, voice serious and grave.

"Cordelia, I don't want you going anywhere alone. One of us, preferably, with you. If not one of us, another .. Auror." He looked to Bastian, brows raising. "And she's right -- you need security as well. You're in just as much danger. Whatever it is that's causing these kids to be lured away isn't what it seems. It obviously isn't anything that we'd see coming, or be suspicious of."

He looked from Ronnie to Malone, nodding in agreement with the other statement as well. "And we do need to do checks on bloodlines. If there are others out there with the same blood, they need to be watched. The last thing we need is for them to get their hands on exactly what they need."

Ronnie stood, still grasping at Sebastian's hand in fright. She hadn't spoken, hadn't said a word. Just nodding, fear evident on her face.

Bastian sighed and shook his head, biting his lip as they both told him that he'd need security. Before they could continue, and assign him someone, which would just be wasting forces, he spoke.

"No, no I don't. I'm not at any risk."

Before they could ask him why he was so arrogant that he thought he wasn't at risk, he pulled his hand away from Veronica's and opened his robes, lifting his shirt to show the long scar on his left side.

"They've already got my blood." Giving a small snort of derision, he added, "They got a bloody good amount too."

Looking back at Laurence as he pulled his shirt back down, he shook his head. "Put the forces where they're needed, which is not with me."

Cordelia had to sit down.

So she did. Right there, on the floor, pulling knees up to her chest as she watched it all in a bit of a daze.

"Bastian, you should have said something." she said quietly. In a way, she felt betrayed. Had he known about this all along? And hadn't bothered to tell? Did that put her, and the others at that, in danger? And he never told? She looked away, eyes training on the ground in front of her. "Regardless, well. I suppose we have a better grasp on what we're fighting then."

She let her eyes raise, looking at Laurence. "I'll not go anywhere alone. Promise. And finding out other people like us? Shouldn't be too hard. I'll um.. I know who I can ask. Shouldn't be difficult at all."

Laurence knelt immediately, draping his cloak and robes around her. She looked pale and frightened, and as she looked to Bastian -- annoyance? But something deeper, perhaps. He swallowed, gesturing to the empty jars. "I'll collect them, we'll take them to Albus as soon as possible and explain everything. And Cordelia, you can start asking around. Bastian, we can't force you to be watched and guarded, but I do wish you'd reconsider."

He glanced briefly to Veronica, as if trying to get her to notice his worried gaze, hoping she could persuade him. "If there's nothing else here, I suppose we should all head back to our quarters."

He looked back down to Cordelia, worry shining on his face. She looked terrible.

Ronnie, however, didn't even catch Laurence's gaze. She simply stood stock-still, afraid and trembling, and briefly wondering where Bastian's hand had gone.

Fuck fuck fuck. Cordelia looked betrayed, but... she had to understand why he hadn't told anyone! She had to...

Running a hand through his hair, he had to return to Veronica's side, slipping an arm around her waist, as much for his own protection as for hers. Feeling her tremble, he swallowed, and nodded at Laurence. "I don't need a guard, but I'll not go off by myself if I can help it, all right? And... Cordelia..." He didn't know what to say, so he just trailed off.

"Someone should talk to Chamberlayne about all this, let him in on what's going on."

Then, glancing down at Veronica, he murmered, "Let's go back to your quarters."

"We will." Cordelia replied. Her first thought was to tell not only Chamberlayne, but his guest as well. With the knowledge she claimed to possess, she could only help that Genevieve would have more information to share. She didn't look up at Sebastian as he spoke.. she didn't want to. Instead, she leaned over and into Laurie's grasp.

"We'll bring it up to Albus as well. Laurie and I, that is." She cleared her throat, then looked up to him. "..can we go..?"

Ronnie nodded solemnly, letting him lead her back to her quarters as she looked down sadly at Cordelia and Laurie. Why wasn't she doing that? Why wasn't she wrapping herself up in Sebastian, terrified for his safety? Why was she simply standing there, then letting him lead her away without so much as a word of worry?

Laurence nodded to Cordelia, hands gripping her sides to steady her into standing. "Can you walk?" he asked softly. It was a silly question but really -- she looked that awful. He'd not hesitate to carry her back to their quarters, not if she was remotely weak.

He turned to Malone, giving him a courteous nod. "Thank you, Malone. Good night."
