Unexpected though it is, Kate recuperates almost instantly from surprise at being addressed, oddly comforted in the fact that it's someone she doesn't know. It's no secret that she has been avoiding certain people, Sawyer chief among them after their fight over a week ago, but she isn't opposed to meeting new ones. Each new acquaintance is a chance at a fresh start, another first impression, and although she isn't afforded here the freedom she might have had in the real world (principally the chance to pretend she was anyone but herself, although the press coverage after her trial hindered that greatly) she takes what she can get.
"Um..." Drawing closer, she considers the stack before her, but staring is of little help. "Third from the left?" She taps the card in question, uncertain of whether she's meant to remove it or not.
"Third from the left," Rodney echoes, picking it up so that she can see the face, but he's left with the back pattern. "Right, let's see if I can pick this one out again." Taking care not to look at the card, he pushes the deck back together, shuffling it a couple more times before he starts laying some of the cards out face-down. The truth is, he doesn't actually know any card tricks, or at least, he doesn't know this one. Still, it's harmless, so he's not too worried.
After a moment of consideration, he plucks one of the cards up from the table, flipping it face-up to reveal the three of hearts.
"Three of spades," admits Kate with a grin. She’s vaguely disappointed if only for the fact that she can’t pick his brain and learn a trick or two herself, but that passes almost instantly; cards were never her strong suit, anyway, and the idea of magic tricks (of magic in general) leaves a bad taste in her mouth. "Close enough?"
"Close enough," he concedes, with a sort of resigned nod. "Considering the fact that I don't actually know how to hack any tricks of that sort, not bad at all. I got the number right, at least." Grinning broadly, he gestures at the seat across from him. "And would the lovely lady like a seat? I promise my conversation isn't as half-baked as my card tricks."

"Yes? No? Possibly?"
