It's late but not too late.  Jethro is asleep.  Jen is in the kitchen refilling her water bottle.  On the counter beside her, her phone buzzes alive with another text message from Liz.  Turning the water off, she picks up the phone and leans against the counter to reply.  But as she types, she realizes she could just call.  Her housekeeper is ( Read more... )

Liz takes her own turn to let the words sink in. She hasn't recognized the tears that touched her eyes until she couldn't see through the water and she blinks them away. The comment about soul mate and life partner makes perfect sense - it is how she feels in her own relationship. It's how she's classified it to herself already. But it helps to know Jenny has had the same thoughts and when she speaks her tone conveys that, even if her words take her elsewhere. She's a woman of language and if she's learned anything, it is that tone says more than mere words ever could ( ... )

Liz actually chuckles. "You have a point," she says, "hope is probably the wrong term. And no, I'm not going anywhere. You are completely stuck with me." There's a weight off her chest that she hadn't realized she'd been carrying - beyond her wondering where she stood with everything. Now she knows. "I'll admit, as happy as I am to know that you and J are actually having a ceremony, I had this nagging fear and wonder where I fit in. I tried to ignore it. I really did." She runs a hand through her hair and pulls a stray piece of straw free. God she is light years from her life in Georgetown. "But you see, there are reasons they medicate me." She makes her way back to the bed and curls back up.
