She's limped into the bedroom since the last text to Jen and is curled up in her freshly washed sheets and comforter. Spring is blooming around her in the desert and it's warm enough that her windows are open. Outside, lizards scurry across the porch. Her phone comes alive, this time not with a text notification but Jen's familiar number and she smiles. She had a feeling it was getting to this tonight. "Hey you," she says softly as she answers, her voice lilting with that tone that she's come to recognize as the one reserved for Jen.

Jen smiles, "Hi." The windows in the nursery are both open, but the neighboring buildings block most of the breeze. Every now and then, she can feel it and it's cool against her bare arm; the apartment is already too warm. "I mostly just wanted to hear your voice," she says after a moment, "Feels like it's been forever."

"It has been," Liz says. It is an instant response, and an honest one. While what they have feels right and real, having it all come together so soon before Jen left for New York and then on vacation with J has often left her wondering where she all fits in. "And you sound wonderful."

"You sound just as good," she answers. It's just as instant and honest as Liz's answer. Things were crazy for a little while, but they seemed to have calmed down. Jen knows, though, that it'll be short lived. She's been trying to make as much time for Liz as she's able to.
