Tonight I stopped in at the grocery to see if they had any paczki, because tomorrow is Shrove Tuesday ALREADY.

They had them last month, I swear they did, but tonight the following happened:

a) I checked the bakery. Nothing.
b) I asked at customer service. The lady blinked at me, asked me to repeat myself, and then asked me to spell paczkic) I ( Read more... )

Holy crap! Today's paczki day? Yay!!! It bites to be you, but for me it's great, because even Tim Hortons carries paczkis today. And probably Krogers. And I know Busch's makes them. Maybe I should hit Holiday Market.

Yep, all day! You actually live fairly close to my parents, I think, so you guys all have the same sources. (Well, relatively speaking, I mean.)

Krogers def. has them this year; so does Meijers. I think mum said they were the ones with plum-filled, but she ended up buying hers at Haas, instead.

Not to be a creeper, but it's entirely possible that you live relatively close to my parents, because all of those stores sound eerily familiar...

I'm only 15 miles east west of Detroit proper, so yes, it's entirely possible.

Oh, no worries about that. It's just that paczki are a holiday food, and so you really only eat them on the holiday.

I've heard a rumor for a few years now that you can sometimes find them at Giant grocery stores in the area. I've never really gone looking myself though.

Giant had them last month, and I know other people have mentioned seeing them there. That's where I ran into all the language trouble last night, though, so clearly it's not a universal thing.

*shrugs* Pancakes are fine. I'm just feeling homesick and whiny this year, is all.

*g* Thanks, but no thanks. I've got a couple of recipes, I'm just too lazy to make them. I prefer that my pastries come in a box and require no kitchen clean-up.

Which admittedly rather misses the point of paczki and fastnacht. Whatever.
