I mean...I never thought it was scripted per se. And most reality shows I don't think have a line by line script necessarily. But I always feel "reality" shows have direction and self produced drama to make it exciting and editing is always done a lot. Those confessional/floating head segments are always edited to make it look like there is more happening.

I don't know if I'm remembering correctly, but wasn't he kinda an ass on the show? Like...constantly being in a grumpy/playful mood and making comments? Or maybe that was the the editing? I remember him/editing making fun of Hwayobi's outfit going out was ridiculous but her stay at home outfit was "nice".

Dang. this was a long time ago.....my memory is foggy at best.

Agree with this. They don't have a script where they get their lines from but whatever they're supposed to do or how they're supposed to act together is pre-determined (if they don't want to use the word scripted)

"pre-determined show" isn't nearly as catchy as "reality show".
but it describes it much better.

Like the direction of "pretend to be a couple and go do this cute couple thing here and pretend you are enjoying it"

To me...that's scripted.

He was a p.o.s to her at least 70% of the time so him saying it wasn't scripted isn't really a good look for him tbh...

I do believe it's not scripted in the sense that it's not a proper tv series with a writer, they just figure out what kind of activities they would like a couple to follow and they let them go with the flow on that.

But in a sense they still have to act obviously because they have no bond with these people and most of the time they will have to pretend to like each other rofl. I mean god knows I'd have a hard time pretending to have feelings for someone they pair me with especially since they have to do such tacky lovey dovey activities.

Oh god, sometimes it was a mess and they didn't even pretend. Lee Joon's eps were so awkward because you could tell the girl really didn't like him, so all his attempts to be a cute couple just fell flat on the ground. I felt so bad for her though because his fans hated her due to that, and then it came out she already had a boyfriend while on the show, so then fans his got mad about that as well...??? A mess. But I really appreciated their last episode together because he opened up a lot about his personal life and anxieties and dealing with the pain that comes with being famous when trying to console her. It was sweet. I feel like she really didn't want to be there though so idk what her company was doing.

I think this is more towards the younger fans - I see a lot of people talk about how their idols don't do scripted variety shows and swear that they have full scripts all the time. I didn't watch WGM after Victoria so I don't know how different it is but you could tell there was some definite tension (good and bad) in the early seasons.

I loved this show. Ruined so many male idols for me though lmao. Ga In and Jo Kwon's episodes were my fucking LIFE, however. I hope they are still friends.

I remember Mnet Scandal. U-Kiss Eli, Nichkhun, Jokwon, Seulong, Gain and Honki from FTI were on it. It was scripted af though

I felt like Romantic and Idol was more scripted, since they tried to push certain love lines
