Unfinished debates have ensued in Korea after IVE Jang Won-young's "seated lip sync" stage.

On December 31st, Jang Won-young and Lee Seo appeared on '2022 MBC Gayo Daejejeon' and performed IU's 'Strawberry Moon' as a cover song. However, controversy began after a netizen posted criticism over her stage.

Let’s be real, do any of the 4th gen groups actually sing live? I remember SNSD used to get a lot of hate for lip syncing (which they did rarely) and now it’s become so normalized.

i guess its a fair comparision cuz (as you may or may not know) iu released this song and mostly sang it live even when she was having her worst ear condition problems. This song is saddly infamous between iu fans because in her documentary she usually practice strawberry moon while in pain due to her herpatulous eustachian tube condition

I just realized that this is the most “recent” “clip”/ “performance” of Strawberry Moon that we got from IU and… 😓 (from Pieces documentary. Iykyk.)

Jieuna, I hope you’re well and healthy. 🥲💜 #IU #아이유 pic.twitter.com/bKlgD2RoqN

so yeah... seeing two girls younger and healthier than iu performing this song not even trying & not putting any effort in their singing feels kinda disrespectful to all the pain & extra suffering iu had to go through to release/performe strawberry moon even with such a health condition 😭

Respectfully, why would anyone think that any idol sings live on music shows? Even the people that we know are very talented vocalists don't sing live. And if it is "live" it's autotuned to hell which also doesn't count. Thats just how music shows and these "live" youtube videos work. Lower your expectations

I usually think they play a "live" singing track rather than a studio version. So it's them "singing" but it's still not actually live. Like they have done for radio shows (Gfriend got called out a few times for this if I remember correctly).

I don’t really know about most groups cause I only listen to a few, but I appreciate my faves that sing live most of the time. As it is known though, some times the own organizer of the events or stages decide if the artist will lipsynch or not so it’s not always their fault if they don’t.

Ballads needddd to be sang live. When I see groups lip syncing for those I can't help but judge.

No, I completely agree. Ballads need to be live for sure.

I hate when companies or music shows do post-editing and it ends up sounding lip synced even thought it was sung live. I don't want it to sound cold and perfect!! I want to hear the white noise and breathing. It gives the performance more depth

Nowadays, Kpop idols' dance, performances, and groups have become more mainstream and their achievements are recognized in the global market. Lip sync scandals also seem to have faded more than in the past. Idols actually lip sync now more than ever though? Clearly lip syncing to studio versions aside, for the last few years now idols have been doing a lot more of those "pre-recorded live" where they recorded a slightly rougher/less perfect version than the studio version with more breathing sounds, and then lip sync to that on stage. Many Kpop fans (at least internationally that I've seen on YouTube) can't tell the difference and eat it up saying "omg their mic is ON, I can even hear them breathing". Never mind that their breathing often don't match the movements/dancing that they're doing or that the volume stays stable and constant for every member during every note. Some members naturally have softer/quieter voices while others are louder/clearer, and different parts of a song can be quieter or louder depending on the notes, the ( ... )

I can always tell when my fave idols are singing live cause their mics are almost never in the same volume. So some you can barely hear them and others are belting and can be heard across the world lol

It's live is not "live" what so ever. It's autotuned to hell. And it's wild how many fans actually believe it.

Things like the SM town stuff grinds my gears because it's literally all prerecorded crap. And because SM prides themselves on their singers, i jusf dont get it. At least that thing was free and people werent paying for that

The It's Live performances that I've seen where the idols just stand and sing are mostly live. I don't mind some post-editing or autotuning on those. But if they do their dance choreo and use pre-recorded vocals but still call it "live", that's where the problem is for me.
