sorry for being so late to this post but i've caught up!! overall i really enjoy the drama and especially deokim as a character, in general most of the female roles in this drama are really good and interesting. the plot twist in ep 7 where it was revealed that deokim was sort of a plant by head court lady cho to become a concubine???🤯🤯🤯 court lady cho in the beginning gave me huge michael b jordan in black panther vibes because i sort of agreed with her until she started torturing and until i found out about that she was motivated by jealousy :(
i have kind of mixed feelings about san though like he is sometimes really unpleasant to deokim! and he is often not letting her speak idk but in the last two episodes he was pretty sweet.
[ep11]Omg he grabbed the hot bar????????????? His hand wont be able to recover

Yay! Hi friend; I'm so glad that you're here! I hope you're enjoying the drama 😃
i sort of agreed with her until she started torturing I felt this too because I was like, oh, she wants to protect her people... little did I know there was also underlying motivations
i have kind of mixed feelings about san I love this perspective. I wondered how people who don't know/didn't look up the history of the two of them and/or read the novel it was based on would perceive their relationship in the drama
Did we know deokim had that tattoo Yes! The bath scene when she got changed. San saw it in the mirror.
Wait but why did bukyeon leave the palace She served the previous King. So when he passed, she had to leave the palace. I had to double back because I was a little confused, too. The time jumps in this episode was WONKY
why suddenly 3 episodes I think it's the holiday rush. They're also doing a double episode next Saturday because of the year-end music show on Friday.
i am enjoying it! thank you for answering all these questions caused by being inattentive by watching though! i guess that the tattoo didn't make that big of an impression on me because i was kind of offended by san being a peeping tom during the bathing scene lmao
right the time jumps were really unclear in ep 12!! i felt like the change in dynamics could've been told with more care, there was so much happening i got a bit lost at times
ooh it's based on a novel, too? have you read it? i did read up a bit on san/prince jeongjo and i guess his traumatic family background, which is clearly featured in the drama (including the abuse by his grandpa hello!!!) could explain some of his possessiveness. what do you think helps us understand san's behavior towards deokim a bit better if you know the book/the historical background?
also i realized that this drama is directed by a woman and it makes so much sense in the way the characters are portrayed!
ooh it's based on a novel, too? Yes! I think you get a better understanding of San's own struggles with expectations on him as well. Also, drama San is a lot nicer than novel/webtoon (yes there's a currently running webtoon, too) version of San. There are many things I'd be happy to share with you post-final broadcast if you want to hear lol. But no, I didn't read it, but I've read a lot of commentary/spoilers because they don't bother me haha. But I want to order a copy and try to translate it for myself as a project.
I think the director is doing such an amazing job with the drama. From what I read, she worked with the source material for two years before production began. And Junho and Seyoung weren't even the first choice for the leads. But whatever happened in the universe to bring the roles to them, I'm glad because now that I see them, I can't imagine anyone else.
This week has been insane. All of a sudden it's Friday again!
I like the development in the last two episodes. I feel like there's still so much to be explored over the next 5 episodes. Why couldn't this have been a 20/24 episode drama? I continue to love our leads.
[Episode 11]Episode 11 - This was painful to watch - I like seeing San and the Queen’s relationship growing through this; the mutual respect is fascinating - Queen coming through and putting Princess Hwawan in her place… YAS QUEEN - Lady Jo is terrifying; the most terrifying - The King was giving me big Gollum vibes with this monologue… Lee Deok-hwa is amazing - I always love scenes between San and his grandfather, it really shows the toxicity of “parental” love and expectations - He’s always thinking about her - I love, love love Deok-im. Her conversation with Lady Seo is both heartbreaking and empowering - My brave, smart girl <3
