While Canada's constitution is different, you could also point out that their health insurance is paid in taxes, and you're required by law to pay taxes, so technically Canadians are required by law to have health insurance. Doesn't seem like a bad thing to me.

I'm sure you could be considered conservative on some things too, and someone less conservative about something, would view you as a crazyperson for being so uptight. We're like birds, what we see first is right, it's mommy. It's everything. Me? I don't give a dogdamn except what I learn ( ... )

Not all states require drivers to carry auto insurance, but that argument is pretty busted anyway:

"forcing to people to buy health insurance is like forcing people to buy auto insurance when they don't own a car, or even have a license!"

Wrong. You can certainly choose not to drive and thus not pay auto insurance. But you cannot simply choose not to get sick, or have an accident at work, or a heart attack, or some other life threatening event that requires immediate (and categorically expensive) medical attention.

And increasingly, Americans are also proving incapable of choosing to be healthy.

True, but with the exception of City-dwellers who tend to be more liberal anway... I'm sure if you asked most people whether or not they could do without their car, they'd say "No".

And the goal of the mandated insurance, as I understand it, is to prevent people from not buying insurance until they get hurt or sick, which kind of breaks the system when you have the rule "an insurance company cannot deny anyone".
