[mod post] Writers seeking Betas signup post

Jan 11, 2014 15:10

Greetings wonderful omgspnbigbangers! We asked if you wanted beta services and you answered with an overwhelmingly resounding YES! Since most of you asked for separate posts for those offering betas and seeking beta services, that’s what we’re doing. Think of this as a sort of spn-j2-bigbang classified ads section for betas and writers.
This is the post for Writers seeking Betas.
So here’s how this will work:
1. If you want to volunteer your services as a beta, copy the text in the text box below, and post a comment with your responses.

Username (or name):
I need/will need a beta (now, after May 1, some other date):
I need a beta for (e.g., spelling and grammar, character development, plot, story structure, everything, etc.)
My story category is (spn gen, spn het, spn slash, spn femslash, rpf gen, rpf slash, rpf het, rpf femslash*, I don’t know):
Something about my fic (optional): [If you are comfortable sharing, use this to post any key warnings, give a hint about your genre (e.g., sci-fi au, future!fic, hurt/comfort, college!fic, etc.), or your anticipated word count. Please DO NOT provide a story summary.]
The best way to contact me is (e.g., reply to this comment, send me a PM):

2. You can also look through the “beta seeking writer” comments here as another way to match up with betas offering the services you need.
3. When you find a beta, please reply to your original comment. In the subject line, type: “Beta Found.”
4. If you are a beta looking for a writer, feel free to peruse the comments in search of a suitable story to beta and/or writer to work with. If you see a writer who is looking for beta services you can provide, contact that beta via their preferred contact method. You might also want to post a “beta seeking writer” comment here.

Simple enough, right? Great! But before we get started here are a few RULES of thumb:
- This beta seeking writer post is ONLY for the spn-j2-bigbang. If you want to offer your beta services on other stories or for other challenges, please consider checking out the links here.
- All types of fic are welcome here. Please do not judge other betas or writers for their taste in fic.
- Do not harass or disparage other betas, writers, or their fic preferences in the comments (use common sense, folks, and behave like the mature, responsible adults you are). That means no flame wars and no color commentary on your likes or dislikes.
- Writers: If a beta offers their services, check out their “no go” list (or if they don’t have one, ASK if there is anything they will not beta) before you accept. We don’t want you to spoil your fic at this early stage in the game, but we do want to make sure you get paired with a beta who will be a good fit for your fic. If it turns out a particular beta is not comfortable with an aspect of your story (e.g., no explicit sex and your story is full of porn), then politely decline their services and move on. This may require a little back and forth between writer and beta, but remember, no hard feelings if a beta isn’t a good fit. Someone who is an even BETTER fit will come along.
- Betas: Please READ each writer’s “about my fic” section to get an idea if the story might be a good fit. When offering your beta services, please be sure to include your “no-go” list so the writer can verify their story is compatible. Remember, if you’re not a good fit, no hard feelings. There is a writer out there whose story will be a perfect fit.
-Betas: Please also verify that the writer is looking for the type of services you can provide. Don’t volunteer to beta a fic when the writer’s looking for detailed plot debugging and you only have time to edit spelling and grammar.
+ DO have fun!
+ DO be the wonderful, helpful, supportive community you are!
+ If you have additional questions, please post a comment here or PM your mod (paleogymnast).
Okay, on your marks… get set… beta!

Fine print:
* Please remember that by the rules of the spn-j2-bigbang all RPF fic must focus on Jensen, Jared, or both. RPF femslash is possible, however, if you are doing gender swap, always-a-girl, or if one or more of your characters is trans*.
