Eyelets suck.

So I thought making hand-bound eyelets would be a good idea and I was wrong. Being, though, that I can't find appropriately colored metal ones and that I want this fucking dress to remain as light and airy as possible, embroidery floss still seems the best route.

My awl is about a millimeter or two too small, though. A millimeter! It's the tiniest ( Read more... )

So how do you make eyelets, on a sewing machine? Just that much makes the hole too small? Sucks. :Oc

This is the tutorial I used. I have satin cord that's not very thick, and I thought my awl -- which is a little bit bigger, but not tremendously so -- would be enough; I'd made a practice eyelet on some scrap and one came out HUGE, another came out just right. In practice, though, that didn't work quite the same way.... XD

I have no idea how to do it on a sewing machine (or if it's even possible, maybe like a buttonhole kinda). It would have been nice to know twelve hours ago, though!

What a pain... but that makes sense! But yeah, by hand takes forever. I did buttonholes by hand once because I was too scared of the sewing machine, and that took a while too, I can relate.
But they're done now?

Man, buttonholes on the machine are a breeze (and my machine is awesome that it does the entire thing automatically). I've never had to do them by hand (belts and drawstrings everywhere) and I can't imagine otherwise, so I doff my hat to thee. *doffs*

I fell into a good groove last night and got fourteen of twenty-two done. That leaves eight for today. Unfortunately, I also have to go out for thread, hem my skirt, do some stitching on my other cosplay, ticket-snipe later this afternoon, clean my room, and not throw up in nervousness over tonight's game. We'll see how much of that gets done. XD
