Eyelets suck.

May 25, 2012 00:40

So I thought making hand-bound eyelets would be a good idea and I was wrong. Being, though, that I can't find appropriately colored metal ones and that I want this fucking dress to remain as light and airy as possible, embroidery floss still seems the best route.

My awl is about a millimeter or two too small, though. A millimeter! It's the tiniest ( Read more... )

So how do you make eyelets, on a sewing machine? Just that much makes the hole too small? Sucks. :Oc

This is the tutorial I used. I have satin cord that's not very thick, and I thought my awl -- which is a little bit bigger, but not tremendously so -- would be enough; I'd made a practice eyelet on some scrap and one came out HUGE, another came out just right. In practice, though, that didn't work quite the same way.... XD

I have no idea how to do it on a sewing machine (or if it's even possible, maybe like a buttonhole kinda). It would have been nice to know twelve hours ago, though!

What a pain... but that makes sense! But yeah, by hand takes forever. I did buttonholes by hand once because I was too scared of the sewing machine, and that took a while too, I can relate.
But they're done now?

Man, buttonholes on the machine are a breeze (and my machine is awesome that it does the entire thing automatically). I've never had to do them by hand (belts and drawstrings everywhere) and I can't imagine otherwise, so I doff my hat to thee. *doffs*

I fell into a good groove last night and got fourteen of twenty-two done. That leaves eight for today. Unfortunately, I also have to go out for thread, hem my skirt, do some stitching on my other cosplay, ticket-snipe later this afternoon, clean my room, and not throw up in nervousness over tonight's game. We'll see how much of that gets done. XD

I'm sure mine could... maybe... It was my grandmother's but by the time I started using it she had been gone for a long time, so I can't ask the expert now. By hand, it was a few episodes of House, at least, as I recall, haha. But it was almost exactly like what you're doing for eyelets, just fewer of them a little longer! You could do it if you had to!

No puking! D:
We're gonna make it through this! /holds

There's good news and there's bad news.

The good news is that I'll probably get the eyelets and skirt hem done tonight. It's only 8:30, what's going on?! WILL I GET TO SLEEP AT A DECENT HOUR?! 8O

The bad news is that I won't puke, and that's bad because it means I'm not nervous. I'm not nervous because I'm too busy being upset. Rangers are down 2-0 in the first period and I can't take this anymore. It's not the losing that gets me, it's all the losing in a row and such lack of focus from Henrik Lundqvist that... it's like last year all over again.

I'm gonna shut up and get back to sewing now.

You'll have to tell me all about what 'decent hour' is and how it works later.

I hear you, I'm watching it, too. CBC's pretty critical of the team and coach, too, man. 'A'
Some comfort, sewing.

A decent hour is before sunrise, I think. XD I'll get back to you on that, though, because I've seen the sun rise every day this week. whoops

I had to turn it off. I hate doing that because it makes me feel like a fair-weather fan, but I can't bear to watch it end like this, if that's what's going to happen. It's like... Wednesday's game, I missed the 4-3 goal because my stream died like RIGHT before it happened (lol). When it came back, I was disappointed, but I wasn't as upset as I know I would have been if I'd seen it; the empty netter got me angrier! XD I know there's still lots of time left, but for now, I can't think about it.

Ooooh, I love the Race The Sun Into Bed Game, I played that recently, too. I won, narrowly. Go sleep.
BUT NOT RIGHT NOW

WAIT WHAT WHEN WHO HOW WHY

I don't know... with me, they got scored on; without me, they score. I should continue not watching (this is how bad my sports superstitions are).

Edit: a compromise: I'll watch the third period.

I considered not watching for the same reason but I love hockey too much, I am sorry if I curse it so curse it with me in the third period, yes.

"I am sorry if I curse it so curse it with me"

About that.... XD

I'm not upset tonight. It was a good third period, and when games go to overtime, it's proof that the teams are evenly matched and it could have gone either way; sometimes it's just luck. What I am upset about were all the missed calls I saw, and the dives too. WTF, this isn't soccer!

And I'm not over the pitiful performances of Games Four and Five (not so much Five as Four). The series should be tied three-all. This, if no other, should have gone to seven. That said, Kings are going to cream the Devils, and it won't be pretty. And since both of them beat my teams, I really don't care which one wins. :/

It was a good game, they really had it going. And they did not lose in the third period, as you will recall! We just... cursed the overtime or something.

But yeah, I thought they were gonna hand out Oscars after the Wales Trophy! CBC thought those were some pretty flamboyant theatrics as well, yeah.

And yes, I don't know who to care about either, because I don't. I'm mostly used to the Kings sucking. Maybe I should root for my Western Division, but I just can't. :\

Here's to the end of all the hockey we care about. /toasts

Man, nothing's been called for the Rangers all post-season. They should have been in the fourth round ages ago. :< this is why i wanted to play the flyers in the third round though lol

To the offseason! And many rounds of golf in the sun! *clink* 8D May next season be better in October than April!
