No, Americans do call them flip-flops. I, personally, call them thongs (I have quite a few non-Americanisms in my speech and writing). It really confuses people who think I'm speaking of my underwear, and it doubly confuses people who think I'm talking about shoes at first, but then think I'm not because I'm American. XD
I'm jumping on the 'thongs' conversation (because that sports talk makes my brain go all gkdljkdlsh; ) just to say that I think you're the only person I've ever heard refer to them like that. Are you originally from ny? cause I think I've heard of it as a regional thing. XD;
Yeah, sorry, there's a lot of sports here. I try to keep it to a minimum but when there's a really good game on (or an important one, or one that I went to), I gush. Tonight was one of those nights. Sorry!
New York-born and -raised. But sure, it's a regional thing. In fact, as far as I know, it's specifically an Aussie thing. But as I explained to iamelegentmess, I spout quite a few non-Americanisms. I learned them here and there from various sources.
I was in the NVC studying today and was thinking, "I-I want to go visit Venus! ...but argasfsdf, 'need to study. FOCUS. ;A;" OTL
So difficult. Haha. Glad you were busy then. It worked out. XDb
Adding to the thong convo~ I only learned that people refer to them flip-flops like last year. I always just classified them as slippers. orz W-well, now I know something else. XD;;
Slippers, flip-flops, thongs, sandals, shower shoes... they go by a bajillion names.
I wouldn't have minded the visit, though. I was seriously chillin' by myself for the first hour. I only got work done because it's mostly mindless and my fingers just type by themselves.
I don't hate Pittsburgh, really, I just hate Crosby. I don't like Pittsburgh because they're ahead of my team, and someone needed to take them the hell down. Any team but Philly, though, GDI.
