Mum told me a story about an elderly couple in Northampton who froze to death in their home. Their bungalow was unheated, the wife was in a wheelchair and the husband was caring for her on his own. it's the true meaning "till death do us apart"...very sad, reminds me of stories i have heard, very similar but these days it seems quite unbelievable when news travel faster than ever from one continent to another to hear such stories! are we forgetting what it's like to be human? what about human needs? human rights? simple things... the basics. the elders are pushed aside from everything more than ever these days. oh my...i'd rather live a short life and with respect than grow old and alone and having noone to take care of me :( poor couple.

On the whole this worked out pretty well. The man obviously retained his mental health into old age, either his wife did too or she was dementing, in which case that is an end to a miserable voyage. It isn't quite dying painlessly in your sleep but it isn't bad. Better than getting to spend an extra six months in a hospital.
