Post Octocon 2012

Oct 16, 2012 16:15

So in what is now becoming tradition i come to live journal to talk about Octocon from the con runners perspective. This is mainly in an attempt to have some transparency going on from our side to people who are interested in Irish Fandom and Octocon.

I have done this twice before, first just after the 2010 event and last year after 2011.
Cut for the disinterested )

Great convention. The programming I was able to get to (which wasn't a huge amount) was excellent. The dealers' room was fresh and varied, and always lively to pop in to. The organisers all seemed so calm and collected, and it seemed quite natural that everything went more or less to plan. Well done.

I agree the convention needs to attract new blood, and grow attendence, and perhaps with an extra body or two on the committee you'll be able to open up some fresh publicity opportunities and get the word out to more people. I know it's hard to do more than maintain the status quo with a small committee.

Here's to an awesome 2013.

Yes, a good convention. Richard Morgan and Gail Simone both have a lot of fans. This will help with attendance if we can get the word out that they're here.

I'd always assumed that Conpulsion would be stable about 200, then we got someone with time and understanding of social media and pulled an extra 50+ through the door. I can not stress how important a skill set that is in growing a con.

I'm glad you do the con, but in unlikely to attend (we do three cons a year already in Ireland), but let me know if there's something else I can do to help out!
