Decisions, decisions... Go for the cheaper costume that looks brand new, or save up for the more expensive one that's been "distressed" (but because of the price, I may not have for this year

The fact that you're even worried about whether you have the correct body-type for the character puts you above and beyond 99% of the cosplayers out there. Don't worry about it. It's all about the hair!!! ^____________~
If you get the "new" one, can you distress it yourself? Maybe in the washing machine? And yes, you can lose 40 lbs in 8 months. Took me 6 months. :3
Get thee to any Hot Topics - they carry all kinds of the stuff, including the wash out (non-permanent) kind.
Or, wait for Halloween to roll around and you'll find the color hair spray stuff. I have a couple of cans of the white aroundhere somewhere - glad to share (just remind me). the sprays tend to make your hair extremely stiff but believe that will fit in with the look you're after.
Otherwise - the costume: buy new (and less expensive) and distress yourself - it's fun to do and not really hard.
The weight: you can do it! I just started the Discovery National Body Challenge, not to lose by D*C but just for me. Rooting for you. =)

you know there are places if one is so inclined to find *most* of the movie online. *cough* not like I woudl know... ;p
and 40 lbs in 8 months, I have a few friends who have little support groups on LJ to help them lose weight before D*C. if they reach thire goal we are doing funny things for them. :)
You could..I lost a hundred last year. On the other hand, what for? You're a hottie, and people will instantly know who you are. You'll probably need some white makeup to achieve that paleness though.
