Apply anyway, and sell the hell out of yourself. If you're even half-decent with tech you can learn new software in your sleep.

(Hint: I have on occasion used less-than-legal means to get something a week before an interview just to see if I can learn it. There are also trial versions available of many programs. InDesign's not that bad. I assume.)

I'd say app anyway. You don't have anything to lose and maybe if they liked you but can't employ you because you are still studying you have an adress to refer to after you have finished. It happened to khamura with a different job, the other way 'round - he left a good impression, but they searched a student assistant and as he would be finished soon, they couldn't take him although they wanted. He'll apply there after graduation again.

Anyone here know anything about InDesign or Quark XPress?

Funny enough, a recently graduaded friend of mine asked me the same. She now attends Quark XPress class, I can ask here where she goes to (I think VHS but ain't sure) if you want.

My boyfriend's worked with both of these programmes and I've pointed him towards your entry. He'll probably comment here soon.

And I agree with the others - apply anyway! :) If nothing else, it's worth to see if they're nice people (i.e. if you can make contact, anyway, which might be helpful in the future).

Quark and InDesign are both Graphics packages geared towards Desktop Publishing, specifically for creating and laying out periodical publications (Magazines), posters, and print media. Quark XPress is essentially a very similar tool, which is designed to produce complex page layouts.

Both programs work in a WYSIWYG environment, and both take time and patience to learn, but ultimately the only thing to hold you back is your eye for design!

My opinion is that you could get the hang of these programs very quickly - you should try applying for the job! You are always welcome to talk to me if you need any assistance whatsoever - I am well versed in Quark XPress, and use InDesign on a daily basis.

You can do it! :D
