My new boss just brought me a stack of books on simple living. She said I looked like I would be into that stuff. I glanced through the books to see what simple living was all about ( Read more... )

What about the slow food movement? I wish I could participate in that one.

My lunch at work consisted of canned soup.

So what's the deal with simple living?

She pretty much said that it's against clutter, etc. Or it advocates against make-up... I have nothing against make-up, I actually like mascara, I just don't have time to (a) buy it, (b) put it on every morning!!!! AHHH. I'm trying to get over the innocent insult.

So are you going to practice it now? I actually looked at one of those books a couple of days ago... Suggestions like: take a shower with your plants. I don't know if I would be able to organize myself like that:)

Sounds scary - shower with plants! And funny :)) I'm just trying to get over the insult, I guess, that I look like someone who is into simple living.. When I asked her what it was about, she said that it advises not to spend money on make-up, etc. That's when I knew I've really let myself go. Just to think: a year ago I would not dream leaving my house without mascara. And now I'm a candidate for simple living. Oi-oi-oi.

It's great to have you back!

You know, miraculously, motherhood effected me in the opposite way - I hardly leave my house without make up and never wear sweats outside. Became very girly too...

Really? Why do you think that is? I just reponed to aite that I always wished to be make up-free and now that I've been make-up free for a year since Kolya's birth, I still feel naked and ugly at times. But I never have time to go buy some.

I've had makeup on on a handful of occasions: a theatre production, my wedding, maybe a few more. When I was little, my mom's efforts to get up early and apply mascara every day had a big impression on me. I knew she always felt like she never got enough sleep, and the makeup thing just horrified me.

My wedding make up and hair cost more than my wedding dress! I know that's not saying much, but I looked nothing like myself!

My mother and my grandmother always did their eye lashes and eye brows at the salon. This was the only thing my mother did when she was in great depression over her divorce. Once she started using more make up, I knew she was getting better. I always do my eye lashes when I go home. It is so nice to have them done in a way that is still there in the morning. I hate putting mascara on my eyes and taking it off. But I like the way it looks.

You know, I don't remember ever seeing my mom put on make up.. interesting. I know she wore it every day though. It must be because she woke up so much earlier then all of us. I used to wear eye-liner and mascara and it took me literally less than a minute each day to put them on. But I always felt fake for wearing them and wished that I could go without. Now it's been a year since I wore make up and I still feel ugly without it. I hope time cures that.
