The beginnings of a library

Sep 28, 2010 19:11

We love our books and it is my dream to build a small library for Sean. One which I hope Sean will come to treasure one day.

Somehow, the books we read when we were young always hold a special place in our hearts no matter how dog-eared or yellowed, don't they? :)

Siena really loves her Sandra Boynton books too.. she has about 10 of them! haha and Dr Suess books too

and she loves the Eric Carle books too as she has several including the Hungry Little Caterpiller

plus she still loves the Sasha in Singapore book you mailed to her.. it is one of her favourites, and she always says to us "I want to go to Singapore one day!" haha

yes.. in the back of Sasha goes to Singapore, it shows the names of all the other Sasha books... ... Sasha goes to Hong Kong, Sasha goes to the Botanical Gardens, Sasha goes to Orchard Road.. hehe Has Sean ever read any of the Sasha books? Does he like them?

I should send Sean some of the Boynton books, as we have tons of them here (they are very popular)

Haha ok I'll get a few more Sasha books for her soon! They're pretty thin so postage shouldn't be too much!

We have Sandra Boynton here too so no worries - thanks for the sweet offer though :)

I wish we had a place for a small library! Plus Hb has only red ONE english book in his entire life (The Godfather), so he's not keen on me buying books at all. I think Jo has inherited that part of him! No love for books!

But I have fond memories of my mom reading to me before bedtime. I don't remember reading or having any of the books you mentioned above, but I remember this set of children's enclycopedias that my mom bought and I'll really read them from front to back. I do remember loving the Spot series, and I read lots of enid blyton books.

I loved Enid Blyton for a big part of my childhood too! When I was a lot younger, I remember my father used to buy these Lao Fu Tze and Doraemon comics for me and I would bug my mum to read them to me - but I would get very upset because she always tried to improvise and change the story every time. I WANT THE STORY TO BE EXACTLY THE SAME EVERY TIME!!! How annoying was I :)

Just invest a few good books for Jo (that can last for a few years) so she can browse through when she is at home - can always borrow the rest from the library!

I don't have much space at home too - right now, all his books are in a small crate in his toy corner. Thinking of getting a shelf from IKEA to shelve them nicely soon. NEED MORE SPACE!

oh.. just recently i spied upon these lovely doll houses that double up as bookshelves!!! Itching to get them in the future, but i know I'm just fufiling my own childhood wants! :P

She's more interested in peeling off the stickers on the library books. And standing on them (what's new).

Once my BIL moves out at the end of the year, I'll go all out and BUY BUY BUY books! HB won't be able to stop me! Muahahahaha!

Oh yes, how could I forget Richard Scarry - we have a copy of What do People Do All Day in the car and there is so much going on on each page it keeps him occupied for a while! I remember reading his books as a kid too!

Yes, do post about Noey's books some time! He's such a cute little bookworm - I'm definitely going to check out the rest of the books you recommended :)

Love how you're inculcating the habit of reading in little Sean!! It's such a gift that parents tend to over-look nowadays. It opens up their minds and lets them stretch the boundaries of their imagination beyond anything that we could even hope to achieve.

R has yet to repeat lines back to me, too, but he does get upset if I (out of boredom haha) change the lines in his book - so, they do know!!

I used to get v upset when my mum used to change the stories too! THEY HAD TO BE EXACTLY THE SAME WORD FOR WORD EVERY SINGLE TIME :)

How old is Russell now?

But... But... But, it gets so boring after the nth time!! R made me read this book on ladybirds a grand total of 19 times one evening - and, carefully ensured that every single word was exactly the same every single time. /stabs myself

He's just turned 16 months and is such a little chatterbox!!

Hahaha!

Ah I can't wait for Sean to start talking for real -
aren't one-year-olds so much fun? :)

I like tip #5. :P

I may have more to pass you soon, Zoe is now "reading" longer books like Berenstain Bears and the Disney stories.

HAHA, we'll be more than happy to take them off your hands. You have contributed to almost half of Sean's library! (He loves the baby and Barney books the most - what's with the purple dinosaur?)

Hope your new place is coming along nicely - can't wait to see pics :)
